50 hrs service

   / 50 hrs service #31
On most models you can replace the hydraulic filter and only the oil in the filter and maybe a quart or so will drain out.

It is interesting that some dealers suggest very little for the 50 hour, and some dealers replace all fluids and all filters. In reality, it is model specific. Most Mitsu's require engine oil and filter, front axle fluid replaced and HST/hydraulic filters replaced. They leave the hydraulic oil in until a later service, and fuel and air filters are on an as needed basis. Then of course greasing things. It's also smart to check loader bolts, lug nuts, radiator, etc. $300-$350 for this sort of service is not unusual depending on if the air filter and/or fuel filter needed changed.

And if you have it hauled, it gets really expensive. You can easily justify the cost of a trailer if you own a pickup already. Over a few years of hauling for service (if you do not do your own service) you can pay for a portion of a trailer, and then you have the trailer for many other things.

Well speaking from actual experence on my 1538 gear tractor most of the oil drains out when you remove the hydraulic filter. I pulled some plugs on the rear axle to get the rest of of the oil out, just a little bit measured in quarts out but most of the gallons of oil came out when the filter was removed. BTW There were no magnets or strainers that I could find in the hydraulics on this machine, just the one filter almost buried in the backhoe subframe. Difficult but not impossible to remove and replace. Just enough room to get a filter wrench on it to loosen the filter. This tractor is just not easy to service with the possible exception of the first fuel filter.

The 50 hour service on my 2555 cost me $440.86 and I hauled it myself. I was shocked when I got the bill.

When I got home I started looking at the details of the work listed on the bill and checking the tractor for the filters they said the replaced, they listed the hydraulic filter as changed but the one on the tractor still had crap on it from when I was moving the manure pile, they said they changed the oil in the front diff but the new paint on the filler plugs hadn't even been cracked and no wrench marks on the drain plugs they said they did a completed grease job and I found zerks that still had paint over the tip and not a spot of grease on them. I was some hot when I called the dealer back... the owner said he spoke the the mechanic and he claims he did all the work listed and he trust his staff. I have a friend of mine that is a mechanic look the tractor over and he said the same thing, a lot of the work was not done.

I logged a complaint with Mahindra and never got a response, I call another Mahindra dealer that is about 50 miles further away to see if I could start getting my work and warranty stuff transferred, I was told it would cost me $400 to buy my warranty from the current dealer and then transfer it.... up till now nothing has gone wrong with the tractor so I just put the issue aside, otherwise I may have ended up in jail for punching the dealer in the nose.

I now have a little over 200 hours on it and I've been buying my filters online and doing my own work, I have to do and oil change this weekend.

So does mine and mine's a gear but I did it at about 70 along with the filter that was supposed to be done at 50. Crazy to suggest changing the filter before the fluid. DUH! Remove the filter and the fluid drains out. I suppose it wouldn't if you turned the tractor upside down before removing the filter but who can do that.
I have a gear tractor ( not a Mahindra) and if I have the new filter ready, I can spin the old filter off and the new one on loosing only a quart or 2 of fluid.

My dealer quoted $300 for the 1st service. That did not include transportation. In retrospect I probably could have gotten some reduction in cost for that service when I traded but figured I would do it myself anyway. I think that overall they do a decent job but I figured for the price of a few filters and a little oil why not do it myself and save some coin.

For my BX25, my 50hr service was $350 which included 15 mile transportation. At 150hrs, I requested another full service due to working her hard on a land clearing project that's been nothing short of a dust bowl, and it also was $350.

While I had initially wanted to do my 2nd service myself, time has been a limiting factor so I opted to have them do it. Plus, in this case, I had a damaged hydraulic hose with the FEL that needed replacing. So, there were some misc. parts and labor involved.

Breakdown:
$115 Parts
$145 Labor
$65 Travel
$23 Taxes
==========
$348

This is why I stress that folks check out the dealer thoroughly before buying a tractor from anyone. As with anything else there are good ones and bad ones and Mahindra does little to nothing to sort them out. It's up to the dealer to keep his nose clean.

At present it seems Mahindra is more interested in having just another place to dump new tractors so it's up to the buyer to scope the prospective dealer out. Also a lot of buyers are interested only in rock bottom low prices and will look no further than a few bucks less in price. It costs money to provide decent service but few folks figure that in. Some makers in other industries do more in the dealer development department than others and it typically pays off in the long run. Trouble is the long run counts for little in the battle to jack up short term sales figures and bottom line numbers for the past 90 days in order to please a bunch of analysts on Wall Street and a lot of short term day traders who'll hold the stock for maybe a week to 30 days if even that. It's a silly game but most play it.

The only thing most folks can do if they've made a bad choice is to suck it up, admit your mistake then warn others away. The only thing that seems to get any attention is dwindling sales numbers.

I don't think the brand matters much, it's how the system is designed. It's no biggie because I'd never change one without changing the other anyway. It's like taking a shower while wearing a raincoat.

I change my transmission filter every 400 hours, both transmission fluid and filter every 800 hours.

At this point I may have not choice but to pay $400 to transfer my warranty to another dealership that is 50 miles further than the one I bought from.

sorry what are you talking about -pay $400 to transfer warranty to another dealer???? maybe i had too much coffee this am or not enough. i bought my max 25 at a dealer closer out of state. but he was a jerk all the way around - did not know much or care and his staff was yech and terrible on top off that. when it came to servicing mine at just over 50 hrs and fixing a wheel seal leak under warranty i went to an instate dealer 50 mile away. they took care of it and also took care of corroded battery cables which they did not have to cover under warranty - i did not bu the tractor there. They were great people and super mechanic and staff too. ( i did stay up on top of the battery cables but they did go downhill quick and i was surprised and have seen a few other posts about this issues here.).
