50 hrs service

   / 50 hrs service #21
I just got a trans. filter and it cost $85 and oil brought it up to close to $200. That is doing it yourself. Fuel filters cost another $25 or so. The engine filter was $12 plus oil for $20 more maybe. Plus it took another few hours to change them all.

$435 might be a little high, but at least you didn't wast a bunch of time trying to figure it all out.

I'm going to do my 50 hour service myself. I don't consider it wasting time - I consider it an investment in learning more about my tractor and how to take care of it. And the next time it needs service I will be even faster servicing it.

Just changed the hydraulic fluid on my tractor @ 450 hrs. 1 filter was 31.80, 1- @ 54.43 & 8 gal. oil $241.47
total $327.7 don't know what I paid for the engine oil and filter probably took a couple hrs. because I let everything drain good. Even DIY it's not cheap.

i have no place and lack all the metric tools and never worked on diesel before so for me to have the dealer who does this all day long take care of it and do it right and also look at other stuff and have an experienced set of eyes for other problems it is worth it.

it is a cost but ---

I am poor but having this piece of equipment is a life saver and i waited at least 6-10 years longer than i ever should have.

I guess if the are doing the Tranny fluid/filter and fuel filters that would be up there in cost. It did cost me over 300 to service mine when I bought it used.

I just find it odd that they require a early (50 hour) service on the Tranny fluid. Don't remember any mower I have had that has required that why is a tractor different?

my manual called for a 100 hour tranny fluid change.

Most new equipment lists replacement of filter and fluids at the first service to get out any metal flashing, dirt, etc. that may have gotten into the them due to manufacturing processes. Second change is usually much longer interval

My New Holland Workmaster 50 only requires the hydraulic filter to be changed at the 50 hour service. All other fluids are checked in addition to re-torquing and checking all wheel bolts, FEL mounts ,ETC. I went ahead and changed the engine oil anyway following in addition to the other items listed. Fuel filter changes are listed at 600 hours and engine oil changes are listed at 300 hours.

I have about 80 hours on my Gravely Mower.. Might pick up a filter for the hydraulic on the way home tomorrow and change it.

So does mine and mine's a gear but I did it at about 70 along with the filter that was supposed to be done at 50. Crazy to suggest changing the filter before the fluid. DUH! Remove the filter and the fluid drains out. I suppose it wouldn't if you turned the tractor upside down before removing the filter but who can do that.

On most models you can replace the hydraulic filter and only the oil in the filter and maybe a quart or so will drain out.

It is interesting that some dealers suggest very little for the 50 hour, and some dealers replace all fluids and all filters. In reality, it is model specific. Most Mitsu's require engine oil and filter, front axle fluid replaced and HST/hydraulic filters replaced. They leave the hydraulic oil in until a later service, and fuel and air filters are on an as needed basis. Then of course greasing things. It's also smart to check loader bolts, lug nuts, radiator, etc. $300-$350 for this sort of service is not unusual depending on if the air filter and/or fuel filter needed changed.

And if you have it hauled, it gets really expensive. You can easily justify the cost of a trailer if you own a pickup already. Over a few years of hauling for service (if you do not do your own service) you can pay for a portion of a trailer, and then you have the trailer for many other things.
