Add the "Best type of oil to use is:"

When Conan the barbarian was asked "What is best in life" he replied: "To crush your enemies, and drive them before you, and hear the lamentation of their women".

No one can argue with that.:)

The analogy of hand and grapple assumes you use your hand palm up to scoop a load and simply hold the load in place with your thumb. That is how the most common type of grapple works. Gravity does the work for L shape or "open bottom" grapples like those sold by EA. The load sits on the bottom tines so there really isn't a need to have more than a single thumb to secure the load.

Rotate your hand so palm is facing down when you grasp an object is like using a clamshell grapple. A clamshell doesn't take advantage of gravity but rather fights it as the load is held only by clamping pressure. Open a clamshell grapple and the load falls out immediately. Open an L shape grapple and the load just sits on the bottom tines....unless you move or have a load that's center of gravity is outside the grapple.

Throwing a split fingered fastball is an example use of the remarkably flexible human hand that allows us to use the same implement to swing an axe or hold a baby or pick up a pin without needing SSQA.

Bottom line is that grapples and humans do well with one thumb.

That's how I see it as well, I can't haul much in my Rake grapple. My two lid L grapple takes more time to close both lids than my one lid L grapple takes to close the one lid. So not only can the one lid lift and haul more, it is faster,

Let me ask about this time to close the lid or lids. With my single lid on my Kioti I can snap it shut in less than 1/2 a second from full open to fully closed if I pull the rear remote lever fully and rapidly. Now my flow rate is over 9 gpm and I did run 1/2 inch hoses to the front, but is this what you guys are experiencing? I can feather the valve and make it close very slowly and gently if I want, but If I shove the valve all the way open it will close the single lid with a bang! Of course If I had two lids, it would likely take twice as long, but it would seem to still be pretty fast. I am not bragging or complaining here, I would just like to know how others are working, since it was brought up about closing times.

I don't know how large your cylinder is but if it takes a 1/2 gallon of fluid, wouldn't that take a 60 GPM pump to close it from full open to full closed in 1/2 second? 1/2 a second is awful fast. Maybe it takes a quart, but that would still take a 30 GPM pump.

Mine takes a number of seconds to close both, depending on the tractor.

My grapple lid takes roughly a couple of seconds to go from full open to closed. I wouldn't want it any faster.

Here's a review I just received via email. Scott has our 50" Wicked Grapple on his Kubota B2601 tractor.

"I just wanted to send a shout out to you about the Wicked Root Grapple I purchased. It is freaking amazing. Your grapple is tough as nails just as shown in the videos. I have already used it to clear quite a bit of brush, trees and debris. My back is very thankful. I am ready to purchase your 48" brush cutter that you manufacture. Please send me an invoice for the brush cutter and when it can be available for pickup. Between your grapple and the brush cutter I have no doubt that I will have over three acres cleared and ready to plant come spring. It's too bad you guys don't manufacture tractors as well. Keep up the good work!"

I need to put a stopwatch on this, but the cylinder is pretty small, No where near a quart, If I had to guess, maybe a pint? , Maybe it is closer to 1 second, but I am pretty sure it is not 2 seconds.
