I And you call me a jerk? Lol after a deer ran into my bike, multiple dodging of ratcoons and other critters and getting tired of jack azzes cutting me off or merging into the lane I'm cruising in, I bought loud pipes off Craigslist and had the bike rejetted for the pipes, best money I ever spent on my bike.

Every time you hear loud pipes you should be thankful you know where that cyclist is because bikes are hard to see for people I guess, I make sure I'm herd (sic) first.
This is an example of the mentality that causes so much resentment towards motorcyclists.

First of all, the noise from open pipes is only when the rider is on the gas, and almost entirely behind the rider. Most hazards are in front of you: the Hurt Report stated over half of all multi vehicle crashes are left turners, and loud pipes are no help there.

Second, the noise might help you, but add a second loud bike, and everyone is worse off: no one else can hear a thing. And if you're on a normal bike, your presence is masked by a loud bike, or car, or truck.

Third, there are motorcycle safety studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of DRLs, high viz clothing, light colored helmets, full face helmets, ABS, and rider training. There are zero safety studies, anywhere, ever, that demonstrate that "loud" pipes enhance safety, for all the reasons stated above: directionality, sound pressure, etc. If you know of one, disabuse me.

Face it, the real reason for loyd pipes is vanity: "Look at meeee!"

Should have been going slower and should have kept following the truck. Also, was their ABS disabled? It looks like all 4 tires locked up.

And all he had to do is get off the breaks and steer - could have avoided it.

Sorry Cobber but you're beginning to lose it... especially when you make the claim highlighted above. Egon lives in Nova Scotia and gets just as intense weather as you do with your 'lake effect' snow.

As to your last sentence? C'mon. Someone putting their hazard lights (not 'emergency lights') on to warn others is a courtesy to others. I'd rather they warn me that they're purposely going slower under whatever circumstances they've encountered.

Here's another scenario that will happen here in a week or so. It's haying season and I'll be helping out, with my tractor, to bring it in. It's also prime tourist season and there are a lot of them about, taking in the beauty of this place. When I move between paddocks onto a public road, I will have my "blinkies" on, and my amber rotating 'whoop-whoop' light on, PLUS two SMV reflective triangles displayed (one behind my seat and my ballast box has one). The speed limit will be 60kph in that area. Am I wrong?

Later on I'll need to access a different set of paddocks that are 7kms away and to get there I'll need to travel on a 100kph 2-lane highway. I'll again have all of my lights flashing and rotating, whilst pulling over to let traffic behind me pass when it's safe to do so. Am I wrong?

Most of this will be during daylight hours but, if rain is expected, I'll be doing this a night too. Is this enough of an "excuse for flashing bright lights in other driver's eyes"?

There is a following somebody in a snowstorm for miles with their irritating fourways flashing no matter what the speed. Flashing lights on a slow moving farm equipment for half a minute in clear weather is another.

This seems like a great reason to run my flashers every chance I get this year! I don't run them often but I just may now. They are my flashers I'll run them when I think I need to!

I generally run them when I pull a trailer and dumb people don't pass unless I do. Broad daylight, no snow in the middle of summer. Flashers say go around or get off my tail I'm going slower idiot!

All together different than following somebody in a snowstorm with their four way flashers on.
