Idiots and winter driving

Growing up in the San Fernando Valley most the guys had loud cars and/or loud bikes. We knew exactly why we liked it. I guarantee it did not have anything to do with road safety. We did not feel like we needed a cover story.

lol I don't need a cover story, I don't ride in packs or try to impress anyone and can care less if I look cool or not, I ride a Japanese cruiser with a ATV looking helmet because I like the visor, keeps the sun out of my eyes.

Loud cars are just stupid and annoying.

Loud cars are safer & you're a fool if you don't think so, MUCH safer then loud motorcycles.

How in the H_ll did this thread get so sideways on loud motorcycles & cars when we are talking about winter driving?

Loud motorcycles are MUCH safer in the snow.

They are, the noise breaks up the ice so you drive on nothing but dry pavement

Like a sonic boom of awesomeness

Because the discussion title is Idiots and Winter Driving! Not necessarily at the same time. Jon

You guys think I should get my bike tires studded? Think that will help?

I also want to apologize for getting upset earlier, I have a lot of respect for 99% of you lol no need to argue about motorcycles in a winter thread lol

You keep sticking to this one scenario (and yes, I've read your following 3-4 posts). We get it; constantly 'on' hazard lights irritate you to apoplectic heights.

However, you are consistently changing the goal-posts of provided examples to suit your own 'position'. "half a minute" to go 500 metres (let alone 5-7kms) is ridiculous.

Here's another scenario... actually, it's a true story that happened to me many years ago. I was driving in upper-state Maine, on my way to Nova Scotia. It was night and there was heavy to medium fog. My headlights were on low beam, no hazards and there was a vehicle about half a mile ahead of me.

Suddenly, the vehicle ahead puts their hazards 'on'. They're still moving, so I become even more alert as to 'why'. The short story is that there was a moose on the 2-lane highway... scared the crap out of me 'cause all I saw of it was four spindly legs & its underbelly.

Had that conscientious and courteous driver ahead of me not put their hazard lights on to warn me, half a mile behind him, I shudder to think what the consequences for me could've been.

four way flashers on slow moving farm equipment that is passed in a brief perid of time is another whole topic that a winky blinky fan introduced, not me. The topic was about the rude drivers who run the four way flashers into the eyes of following drivers at any and all speeds, visibility range and precipitation..

Speaking of idiots, we just got home from the cottage after wasting an extra hour because people were driving at about 30 miles an hour on the 6 Lane Divided Highway which did not have that much snow on it. The tire tracks part of each of the three lanes was completely bare, with huge traction, but no, everyone had to drive like a turtle. Have driven that route hundreds of times, including many many times in the winter when there was snow storms and the like. Have never seen such a bunch of slowpokes before. And I am definitely not a maniac driver. I am generally more careful than others, but in this case they just got it wrong.

I really wonder what proportion of them had their snow tires on already, and how much that contributed to the big jam up.

Usually I see people driving too fast during a snow event at the beginning of the year, but this was completely the opposite. Very surprising.

Depends on the size of the studs like the folks run at Georgetown CO or other places during the winter festivals. Some are 3 inches long. The races I actually like best are the stock tire ones, both cars and bikes :D ;););)
