Is this a bobcat

We live near OKC. Wife and I were walking the trails in a park near us when we spotted two large cats next to the trail in front of us. They were huge, at least at the time they seemed huge...I thought they were pumas. Only problem...their tails were not nearly long enough for a Puma, but seemed too long for a bobcat. We finally decided that they were bobcats BIG bobcats with tails that were apparently longer than what you would expect for a bobcat. My guess is they were at least a foot long; I know they were longer than in most of the pictures you see of bobcats. There are a few Pumas in this part of the country, but very few. I have never seen one, but verified sightings do exist.

Never seen a bobcat in Kansas with a tail much longer than say 3", and yes, we have Puma/Cougar up here also. But both cats are seen very seldom. At best you will see tracks in the mud or snow.

I've seen a mountain lion in PA. I guess that is the same as a puma. Aside from the tail, which is long and curved, it was a light tawny color, almost cream colored. And it had a much lighter build than a bobcat. He was picking his way across an icy crusted field and was nearly dancing to keep from slipping. Quite graceful actually.

We had a string of sightings in the area a few years ago but no one got a picture. The state said they didn't exist but at least a dozen people reported them to the local paper.

So if they don't exist, can you get in trouble for shooting one? Deep thoughts.

If your deer population is exploding like they are here, it shouldn't be long before they are all over the place. There have always been rumors of Pumas/Mountain lions hereabouts, but rarely confirmed. However if you've ever been out at night in the country country, and hear one scream, it doesn't take much more that that to convince you!

I concur. Has anyone ever seen, or even heard of a bobcat/puma hybrid? Or a bobcat/housecat hybrid? If they exist, and I believe they probably do, identifying one would be interesting to say the least.

We have Bobcats, Lynx and even Mountain Lions/Cougar siting's becoming more common in this part of Northern Ontario.

...and we have Cougar hybrids found in the bars , not sure who they are cross bred with :D

Are they dangerously aggressive toward man??

At the place where I used to ski in Utah a lot, there was a bar/hangout called "Canyon Inn" that got nicknamed "Cougar Inn" because of all the cougars prowling around the place for apres ski.

Back in my single "Male *****" days I thought I was the Predator. More often than I care to admit, I was the prey..... Reflected in my empty billfold then next morning.....

Looks like I'm a little late to the bobcat conversation, but there's one (or more) around our house. The noise those things make is spooky. I would describe it as a scream.

A mountain lion with a lighter build than a bobcat?

My kid and I went to the zoo today. There were two bobcats, quite active, playing in the snow. We were no more than an inch from them through the glass. They were MAYBE twice the size of our house cat, probably less than twice the size of our house cat. I'd say the bigger one was no more than 25 pounds. Our big house cat was 17 pounds. He's down to 13 now after diet.
