I would think that this time of the year (Christmas) would be the perfect time to beat the dealer up a bit.
January might be even better.
It is cold in CT this time of year, and buyers everywhere are saddled with Christmas expenses.
I doubt that there are many tractor buyers lurking around his lot right now,.... or next month.
Hang tight..... I think it likely the dealer will come around.
Can you buy it in NH, and save the tax?

I have no problem buying out of state...New Hampshire... any dealer in particular you have dealt with ? Found a couple online... sent requests for quotes...

Thoughts on the 2538 HST Cab model? It's a bit more money, but out of the wind , rain, snow & sun..... all relative to planned use I guess, more then anything else...

Sorry:
I can't help with tractor suggestions, or comparisons.
I am an old guy, with old Ford tractors.

There are 2 Mahindra dealers that I know of in NH.
Chappell Tractor (also sells Kubota) in Brentwood, NH. 603-673-2640 (Chappell has 2 NH. locations)
Knoxland Equip. Warner, NH. 603-748-5260
Both have good reviews, but I have never bought from either.

Having owned both brands I would go with the Kubota personally. I really do not know much about the 2538 but I sure had a lot of problems with the small Mahindra that I owned. On the flip side it taught me a lot about how the tractor works because I had to fix so much stuff on it.

I think your input and opinion is valuable, so what I say following is not meant in a negative way towards you. But I do recall that you had recurring glow-plug issues and battery cable issues with your 2015. A competent dealer would have fixed both issues in 30 minutes and you would not have had to fight getting the thing to start for years. The glow plugs should not have failed so early on you, and the dealer should have sold you the proper upgrade kit.

Having said that, Kubota makes a fine product and you are less likely to find a rookie or poorly trained dealer with Kubota as they have been at this in the USA for quite some time now. They do not often break and when they do you normally get good service. Mahindra's dealer base has gotten a lot better and in many areas is equal in competence as the nearby Kubota dealer. But it's not always been that way and isn't that way in all areas.

A small problem can become a big problem, and that can be frustrating.

I would certainly consider another Mahindra if there was a good dealer in the area. The above mentioned dealer shut down and the Kubota network of dealers is much stronger in this area. I'm sure the Mahindra line has changed considerably since the one I owned.

Now your are revealing industry secrets. :) In the Mahindra world, the Mitsu S3L2 engine has been used in many models rated at 24, 25, 26 and 28 HP. The only difference that I see is the rated RPM. A little more speed, a little more HP. The new 1526 is nearly a twin to the old 3016, but rated at a lower HP to get under the 19kw Tier IV norms. It is smart to consider these models if they are adequate for the job.

And that is why the Torque vs Hp ratio on my old 17 Hp Kubota was better than the my Max28. the Kubuta would fight to the death before stalling, while the Max28, while still a diesel, will give up the fight sooner, even if it has more power.
I bet I would think the 24 HP motor was a better tractor motor, having the same torque as the 28, but acting more like a lugger.

I really have not read this thread but I do have a bit of hearsay knowledge as neighbors own both.
For general light duty work and Mowing, PTO stuff, and resale, quality etc, the Kubota gets the nod, but the owner of the L3901 went out a bought the Rental SV90 CTL he rented then figured he needed as the L3901 is a wimp trying to lift bales and do any sort of dirt work.
The 2538 should handle relatively dry bales and will be stronger, heavier at dirt work, but your getting a unit rougher around the edges. The other neighbor futhur down the road is rebuilding his barn and doing some digging with the 2538, and goes in the woods a lot with it. Of the 30 or so people around us most have Kubota's, from Sub compacts to small utility, mostly CUTs, then a mix of 4 Mahindra's, my max be the smallest, then a few older Deeres and NHs.
