Yep. Your examples above support buying used AND buying new. Very confusing!!! :)

He said nearly the same money. No doubt you can save some coins by buying used BUT there is some risk involved buying used and having little/less warranty left...among other things I'm sure. I like gadgets and I like newer stuff so that's part of my reasoning...not that it makes logical sense but it's my money...LOL!

That can't be. Oversize said that all those pampered f-150's with no bed damage can be bought cheap. LAffin

I don't want to say anything about my trouble-free 2006 5.4L F150. OH CRAP! Where is the wood???
CRAP!!! you all ain't gonna believe this. I have 80K on my truck and shortly after my post above, my truck started to intermittently sound like a diesel at low rpm and then the oil pressure would drop to zero then recover. Pulled into Firestone and let them run a diagnostic check. Got a call this morning that they think it is the timing chain and there are chips in the engine. Recommendation... new engine. $11K installed! WTF?

Got online and it appears there is quite the history with cam phasers, etc. Now I am in a dilemma of what to do. Maybe limp it to the Ford dealer and trade it in? Suggestions?

Bummer....... That really sucks. I think you'll get raped at the dealership trading it. But like you said, what a dilemma. :(

Sorry to hear that.

First I'd want a second opinion...

Then, I'd find a custom garage and check on a rebuild price. I'm sure they can repair or rebuild, probably build you a stronger engine anyhow, for half the cost the dealership wants.

Was there any reason for this to happen such as running out of oil, being in accident, etc..?

Do your truck have variable valve timing? My Merc did that at 80k and we took a educated chance and replaced 2 sensors and it worked.

According to KBB, trade in value is about $10K. I can't see spending $10K+ on a new engine. It is driveable at least to a dealer I think. What a friggin' headache. Only 80K miles!!! Been a ford guy for a long time. Wavering now and have no clue what to do. Comparable new ones are north of $50K!
