Sounds like maybe a bit of good news. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. Just curious, did you follow the computer oil change times or go by miles? I used to go by miles (every 5K) but the last couple of years I go by the computer and I use synthetic (Diamond Pilot convinced me).

I was sort of going yearly (about 7500mi) but I probably should have been doing more regularly since I have very low mi/year on this one. 78k in 10+ years. If I luck out here, I will do it every six months instead.

I do the filter every 5k and complete service every 10k with Mobil 1 synthetic oil. Just hit 192000 in my Merc.

DE, how much oil pressure does it have?

Okay an update... shop says lots of sludge in oil... shop is flushing the engine oil, putting in some kind of detergent, running it hot for about 45min and then flushing and changing oil/filter. Say that possibly the sensors are clogged with sludge. Will know more in an hour or two.

That would be soooo cool if it solves the problem!!!!! Good luck!!!!

If it is possible- have them save the oil filter...
cutting it apart and have it inspected for metal may give some indication of health.

just a thought

I love my 2012 Nissan Frontier crew cab. Its efficient, does what ask it to do and runs well.

Well good question. My dash gauge was showing 'good' (I don't recall if there are numbers on the gauge) but several times went to zero and back before I grounded the truck!

NO KIDDING! Still waiting for the shop. Expect another report any time now before they close at 5pm PST.

Good idea... they didn't report seeing anything in the oil sample they took but I will call them and ask to save it or cut it for me.

Wishing you good luck DE. Like many modern engines, there are hydraulic control solenoids in the top end of modular Ford engines. Sometimes they have to be changed, but sometimes can be de-sludged. A co-worker had decent results healing sticking solenoids using SeaFoam in the crankcase on a 5.4L .

Sounds like this isn't your shop's first rodeo with this issue; here's hoping they nail it right away. Worth checking what the Ford oil spec is for your engine - may not have been an issue in your case, but a friend who had to change several timing solenoids on a Cruze hadn't been using Dexos spec oil - I suggested that he stick with Dexos approved oils in the future.

Well called them before 5pm and they were supposedly road testing. But dang it... no call back this evening so another night of angst. :pullinghair:

Dave, out of curiosity, why do you recommend Dexos (GM spec'd and licensed) motor oil for a Ford product? Not questioning its quality. Just wondering as compared to Motorcraft brand or other name synthetic blends?
