Hey xfaxman, I have of course seen many of your posts on the matter. Tbh I'd love one. It would be right up there near the top of my list, however I simply cannot afford one, simple as that unfortunately.

Unfortunately getting rid of the horses is not an option. They are my OH's and her family's. They are the reason we have the farm really anyway.

I would like to save the money and not get a cab. I'm in the UK so tractor choice is limited compared to the US, I haven't been able to find a 50-60HP without a cab which is a shame. I'm also not sure the cab would fit in my current barn.

Thanks for the advice on skidsteers. So far I've not really noticed a massive price difference between a telehandler and tractor.

When I read this,

I decided to post about the best machine that I have ever owned.

I know they sell telehandlers with a 3 point lift and PTO in the UK, but don't know about pricing.

How is the market on used compact telehandlers?

I started with a used machine and found out how great they are.

More than likely a Bobcat skid steer or telehandler is going to last much longer than a chinese or korean tractor. Construction equipment is like large tractors, made to run thousands of hours. I'm not sure I would say the same about the CUT I had previously. Cheaper components like hoses, valves, are common on these machines and like they say "they don't build them like they used to" .

For moving bales or pallets of stuff along with mucking a skid steer is going to be tough to beat. Just much more maneuverable. Even a telehandler with 4 wheel steering is going to be much more maneuverable than a tractor.

If you are looking for a an alternative to a regular tractor you might check out some of the JCB tractors. They made a few different models similar to my 212SU and they have many features you won't find on most tractors such as 4 wheel steering and much stronger loader capacity. Might be useful for what you do.

Sounds Like a good used Telehandler plus a very small CUT (not a SCUT) like a small B Kubota or a Mahindra Max etc. would work out well. The little machines are real back savers & can do 3 Pt work. For 3 pt stuff you can't beat a Mahindra Max, as it can easily handle 5' implements and has an incredible 3 pt for its size while a B series is just a nice tractor all around.

The telehandler is very strong and versatile for the heavy stuff. All it is missing is a backhoe.

The backhoe is not missing, it goes on the front of the compact telehandler:

And if you use the backhoe with the boom out you can stick the backhoe in sticky situations while the machine stays safely far back. The machine is then a massive far-away counterweight too! Do you have any pictures of the boom all the way out and up with the backhoe on it?

No, I don't have a backhoe attachment, but here are some pictures with the boom all the way out and all the way up:
