I thought i had posted this but can't find it, whaaatever. It don't really belong here but <sunshine>given the density of expertise gravitating to the thread</sunshine> here goes
I almost bought a '99 Cummins 12-valve this morning, it was only when the honest vendor told me that it came with the engine harness as well as the ECU that i realised my gooooof. I no longer want ANY digital engine at all, and i had always presumed that all 12-valves were purely mechanical. I had also thought that '88 was the last 12-valve year but the guy confirmed the year as '99.
If we are talking Dodge Cummins engines, the last of the 12-valve non electronic engines were '98s. I bought one new. Mid model year was the switch to the 24-valve electronic (VP44) engines. My FIL had one of those. So it needs to be pre '98 1/2. Very easy to tell the difference by the valve covers. 12-valve will have individual covers, so 6 of them. Also the injection pumps are way different looking. The one to look for is the inline Bosh pump. I'm not sure that that is the power plant you would want because of the weight (960#s) but it will make lots of power with a few easy mods.
From what I have seen and experienced with snowblowers, its impossible to have enough HP. Wet snow does not blow very good. Getting 100+ feet is going to be difficult. I think your goals are unrealistic, but wish you lots of luck. From what I have seen, I would try to incorporate the rotating drum instead of or in addition to a chute. The less friction getting rid of the snow the less HP required and they seem to cast it a long ways too.
I'll be following your quest, with interest.
