Yes talk to your doctor since (as I recall) there are 3 shots involved, each is different, they need to be taken in the proper sequence and time intervals.
 Will do.

So you can and should get a shingles shot even if you have already had shingles?
Yes but from what I understand, you should wait six months after your shingles have cleared up.

Wife and I looked into shingles shots last summer. My wife's prescription plan would not pay anything towards it and we were short as usual so she did not get the shot. My prescription plan was different and would have cost 42 out of pocket. I do not recall having chicken pox but likely I did. Then in the fall, my wife got shingles on her face. Overall, it took about a month or so to clear up. I questioned the doctor about side affects and he said "get the shot" so I did.

I have spoken to others about the virus. One person had shingles even though they had had a shot but not very severely. Another has had a bad bout with them. He had the shot but then was diagnosed with cancer. The chemo destroyed any vaccinations he had had. Another person had them inside of her mouth of all places.

I always get a flu shot with no effects though last fall I got the pneumonia shot at the same time and that arm was sore for a few days.

Last May, I did get the flu but it was like seven months after the shot. I had gone to ER for it and one of the nurses said that she had a shot but also contracted the flu but then working in a hospital exposes you to a lot.

Lastly, I had very bad cases of mumps and measles as a kid. I wish the vaccinations had been available then, perhaps my eyes would not have started giving me trouble by the fourth grade.

If you ever had the flu real bad, so sick that you were sick of being sick, sometimes wishing someone would just put you out of your misery.... then you might want to get the shot. You can still get the flu if the shot doesn't cover the krap you got.... Full blown flu is nasty..... I get one every year since the 80's....

+1. I evaded one in the military back in 1955. Sick as a dog a month later. Never skipped one since.

Yes, also get the flu shots as well as pneumonia shots.
Got mine early Nov.
Shingles I'm thinking about but the $150. price tag kinda deters me. (some want up to $250)
The Quebec medicare system won't cover that shot cost.
My sister has a bad case of shingles, enough that she is using cortisone.

Flu shot or not, I today feel simply like crap, guess it is my biannual 'severe cold', just a bit late as usually catch it over the Xmas holiday.
Always figured that my 'clock' planned it so as to not short change my employers due to sick leave.
Even when self employed that annual cold would hold off 'til the Xmas season.

I got the shingles one thinking my insurance would cover. Nope, Medicare doesn't pay for it and that is the gateway to my good insurance. I do not understand why medicare won't cover a shot that is so highly recommended.

if you work in a hospital the government took your choice way from you on the flu shot i have been a nurse for 21yrs and never got the flu. i never took it till it was forced on me. Part of obama care states for hospital to get full payment from medicare 90 percent of employees have to take the flu vaccine. Part of big pharm making more money by mandates from your government and taking your choice away from you.

and if you have a reaction to a vaccine ,you can't sue the drug company you have to sue the federal government. The drug companies are protected from lawsuits from vaccines.

My mom is 94 and gets regular flu shots and hasn't had any issues; coincidence? Maybe or maybe not.

If I was going to model my life after what happened to one person, I doubt I'd leave the house; to each his own.
I tend to model my life after what happens to one person, ME.

About twenty five years ago my wife and I came down with the flu. We had it at the same time. Our living conditions were less than perfect. It was New Year's day. We were incredibly sick for a couple weeks and it was all we could do to maintain and take care of ourselves, livestock. It was clear to us what was meant in describing the great flu epidemics in the history books. People died in droves. We were sick as sick and debilitated as can be.
<snip>
Since then we both get them in the early fall or fall, with out fail. We have had some flu a couple times, but we would not go without getting a flu shot. Ever. We have had both pneumonia shots and shingles shots. IMHO neither of those should be overlooked.
VERY similar situation.

Prior to the incident SWMBO and I would USUALLY get the flu shot, but often 1 of us would miss it and get a little sick. SWMBO is from a "medical" family (GP doctors all around) so we knew we should be getting the shots. But only 1 of us would get sick at a time and the other could take care of children and chores.

BUT about 20 years ago we both missed the shot and both got as sick as one can before you go to the hospital and at ABOUT THE SAME TIME. We've got 4 children, luckily the youngest was about 10 and school was walking distance so they were able to "fend for themselves" with parental voice control and minimal assistance. At one point I remember we were both so bad off for about a day or two, one of us getting sicker, the other recovering, that all we could do was occupy separate couches in the living room and stare at each other. Truly an educational experience.

Since then we pester each other to ensure we get the shot ASAP. We've had minor flu occurrences but never the full blown flu (knock on wood).

So based on what happened to me (one person) I'm going to continue getting the flu shot.
