hospitals require it because obama care forced on hospital employees so drug companies can sell more vaccines
Hospital's risk management divisions required the shots long before the ACA existed.

Given their generic status the shots don't represent significant income stream for the companies manufacturing the vaccine.

I usually get one but I have been so sick this year with colds because of this **** crazy weather I haven't got one. 30 degrees one day and 60 the next. I'm all for Global Warming though.

risk management does not have anything to do with it. if a hospital wants full medicare remebusment 90percent of employees have to take the flu vaccine. this taking choice away from people

I think the "Choice" was taken away when they entered the Medical field. Makes sense everyone employed at a Medical Facility should be vaccinated.

if you work in a hospital the government took your choice way from you on the flu shot i have been a nurse for 21yrs and never got the flu. i never took it till it was forced on me. Part of obama care states for hospital to get full payment from medicare 90 percent of employees have to take the flu vaccine. Part of big pharm making more money by mandates from your government and taking your choice away from you.

This is so true and I know medstaff that opted for early retirement over this...

Two years ago I was called into the conference room and told to roll up my sleeve... I said for what?

I was told today is flu shot day... I said I am unable to give informed consent until I am provided with the literature that accompanies the vaccine.

I don't take well to blindly following orders when it comes to injections.

About 7 years ago, dozens of staff members received a bad batch that was later recalled... they were sick and we were short staffed...

I did a declination and did not suffer like my colleagues.

In 26 years I have never used a sick day...

As mentioned... 26 years in as a Hospital Engineer.

It was never an issue at my Hospital until 2003... it was always available but never more than that.

Since ACA it has become a huge deal... you must now sign papers to be kept in your permanent file each year should you not participate...

Nothing voluntary about it.

Here is another tidbit...

Each year medical staff is tested for TB... it requires two pin pricks 28 days apart and is done in December.

This year we are being acquired by a large Hospital Group... they required all med staff that had just had the two pin prick TB test to have it all over again just weeks after completion.

About half the staff had done it before the new employer said it was not necessary...

Anyone that thinks Hospitals or Employers don't make mistakes is kidding themselves and these are all trained medical professionals.

... It was clear to us what was meant in describing the great flu epidemics in the history books. People died in droves. We were sick as sick and debilitated as can be....

My wife and I have great grandfathers who were killed by the flu in one of the epidemics in first part of the last century. My great grandfather got sick but "recovered" meaning the first illness did not kill him outright. He was never healthy after the first illness and eventually a second flu killed him off. My wife's great grandfather was killed by the flu leaving a young wife and three young kids. The young wife never married again, took over the farming operation and built several successful businesses. Her success was an exception though. My family did not fare as well with the lost of the father ie great grandfather.

I get a flu shot every year and the wife tries too. In the last decade or so, I have not had the regular flu but I did get the whooping cough which was a real a...s whipping and I the swine flu ran through the family. The whooping cough I should not have gotten since I get the booster shot every few years. However, that vaccine is not perfect and I suspect I had picked up a variant that had been brought in from overseas. The swine flu was pretty bad but it hit us hard with high fevers and basically was gone in 24 hours or so. Not fun but it was nothing compared to the whooping cough.

Later,
Dan

Where can you find any job that doesn't have some "rules" that take away "choice". Certainly you have a choice. If you don't like the job, go find another one. Of course you can "suggest" changes to the rules and give your reasons for your suggestion or recommendation. Then go with what the boss decides.

I quit taking flu shots a long time ago when I was in the Air Force. Every Time I got a flu shot I got the flu, no shot and no flu, go figure. I figured they didn't know all of what they should about viruses and I did not sign up to be a medical guinea pig so no more shots for me. I figure when they can cure the common cold then they might know enough about virus infections to start preventing them. To date they still can't prevent nor cure a common cold so no flu shots for me. Some idiot excuses for doctors even gave people antibiotics for colds which was truly irresponsible and idiotic. In some cases many members to today's medical profession reminds me of the witch doctors, medicine men and snake oil salesmen of old.

As an example as a law enforcement officer you have to give up several things that you might take for granted as a private citizen. Like making political statements, consorting with "girls for hire", like public drunkenness, like doing anything that puts the department in a bad light. Even if any of those things might be legal in your jurisdiction, if you do them you will be standing in front of the man on Monday morning. :)
