I hate my dryer....I'm sure it hates me!

It does have a plastic bearing that rides on a steel piece. The plastic wears and gets slop in it and the drum starts turning out of round. There are also 4 plastic strips that are on the front panel that the drum rests on. Those were brittle and some only pieces left. I replaced those also.

Stand by with all these new contraptions called home appliances. I have friend at church who has his own repair business. He told us the new stuff is the salesman and repairman's dream come true. They are designed so us old DIYrs cannot repair as we do not have the diagnostic tools for the electronics. Even the cheapest models are micro processor based. Circuit boards are not cheap and are brand specific. Parts are not always available and have to be ordered. Things seem to be designed to break easy. He recently had to take on another tech due to increased parts replacements that never ever broke on the old stuff. I had a new refrigerator crap out in 6 months, 3 service calls, two new compressors, 3 different technicians and Sears gave me my money back. I determined just by watching the techs at work that the problem was never the compressor in the first place. The last Tech was the one who confirmed my suspicions and he said he would write the report up so I could get a refund. he also stated that the new designs were based on an average life of 5 years.

Guess I will join the club soon as we sold our house with all appliances so new ones are in the near future.

our Whirlpool gas (propane) dryer is not drying... did some trouble shooting on Saturday and now have replacements pair of coils in the mail to me. Dryer is in pieces at the moment. Should have parts tomorrow. Amazon actually says it's delivered. Hope this is the $10 fix!

SpeedQueen AWN432 washer and matching gas dryer. I don't remember the dryer model number now. Both were the last of the fully mechanical, no microprocessor units made. Just dials to turn. Nothing digital. The washer has an ECO mode, but you don't have to use it. It really works well. The dryer is pretty darn nice, too. Very simple. Hopefully, I'll won't have to repair them for a few years.

No digital washer/dryer units for me. Same with fridge. They are mechanical in nature... someone will have to explain how they can better get their clothes cleaner and dry with LED/LCD displays. :confused3:

I'm surprised that there isn't a camera in the dryer to watch the clothes dry from your cell phone..... I don't know how that would be better than a glass door but who knows!
