Stihl 4 mix vs Echo 2 stroke

Just used it this evening. Dang..... that sucker goes through limbs like a knife through hot butter.

Those Stihl pole saws sure do. Way better than trying to use a hand pole saw!

By the way just bought this 4mix pole saw last night. Was used one time and the owner said was too heavy for him. He was a very small man. Less than 5' tall and couldn't been over 100lbs. so I can see why. Had original receipt for when purchased last month for close to $700 but sold it to me for $450. Will try it out this weekend.

Is that the HT101? I just bought one last week and used it for the first time Monday. Nice saw! I put mine in the Gator and hauled it from tree to tree.

Yes it is. I was told the one with the larger engine (next model up) cuts faster due to faster chain speed but don't know for sure. But what I do know is this thing works great and seems to cut great to me. Maybe a commercial user might need the bigger engine but honestly I don't see a need for it.

Getting ready to buy a trimmer. Any thoughts on these two engine designs?

My black pack blowers use the 4-mix and they are all going strong. I have a 4.0hp Stihl brush cutter which has been okay with the exception of needing to clean out its muffler from time to time despite using the correct fuel and still 2-stroke oil. Their sting cutters are either too heavy, or break their shaft drives.

I like these guys. Good engine, lightweight, reasonable life and everything runs on the non-oxygenated premixed with Stihl's synthetic 2-stroke oil at 50:1.

Same trimmer is sold as a Hitachi as well.

Last night I got to wondering if the original owner was using the correct synthetic "Stihl Ultra" oil that the 4 mix requires and noticed the fuel smelled sour. So I poured it out and man it looked totally brown with a foul smell. I can't believe it would even run. So I put in premium fuel 90 octane or higher per manual. Plus used 100% gas with no ethanol. That sucker cranks first pull now. So glad I drained it and put fresh fuel in it.

Nice pole saw but you ain't going to keep up with me on 3-12" stuff Bubba. BUT thanks for posting cause we do carry in a manual pole saw for real high work and I'm going to buy one of those.

Are you doing bucket work?

Jameson also has foam-filled yellow stick poles for linesmen, as well as those people working around power lines clearing.

No sir. We are mainly doing stuff for deer hunting clearing shooting lanes etc. some stuff is pretty high so we usually carry in multiple items to get the work done.
