At first, this looks like good news here; no increases, for the first time in 9 years. I was thinking the timing made sense..... just the party in power prepping for the next election.....

Then you read past the bafflegab to see that other charges will be going up for some people 3 to 6%.

My generation is getting to watch the de-electrification of rural Canada. As a social strategy to cram people into cities, I have to admit it is effective - we are rapidly approaching a point where if you are still living rural, you are probably either wealthy or off-grid; perhaps both.

But they gave us 8% back!
Last months Hydro cost me $0.219/kwh

I've said it before, but it's worth repeating as it summarizes the waste and scams well:

After careful review, (West) Germany rejected TOU "smart" meters as a waste of money.

The primary use for smart-meters here was to green-wash major (and ongoing) cost increases. I know a bit about grid-infrastructure, and understand what has to be maintained to keep the lights on - it ain't cheap to do. Instead of spending $Billions on smart-meters, a much better use of that money would have been to invest it directly in the grid, and adjust the 24x7 kwh rate once.

But, that would have been the fiscally responsible thing to do, and would not enable other agendas.

Thought you'd like the smoke+mirrors.... those linked tables in post 432 really show how hard rural areas are being hit, 2 years in a row.

I was mostly not joking recently when I said to a buddy of mine "It's like you are living at your parents, and you hand them your entire paycheque, then just get a small allowance back".

Northern Ontario has always taken 'it' in the rear from Toronto. Nothing will change there. So Hydro might as well get on the band wagon and screw us too.

Lived in NOnt all my life up to now. And for the past 20-odd years, owned a house with electric heat. Some months...ouch. But all in all, my total electric bill pretty much equalled my neighbours' hydro and gas bills. However, try to sell a house with electric heat these days...you'd think it was Chernobyl or something.

If that was all Ontario pricing you reference, you have me scratching my head. In Central Ontario, I'm not sure if even a ground source heat pump would beat nat-gas for heating (picture changes obviously, once you include summer AC).

I had a house years ago with electric baseboards. I really liked the convenience of setting each room exactly where we wanted, but couldn't afford that place now. In that vein, I'm liking mini-splits these days.

What are your rates now in BeSea (individual kwh and total bill divided by total consumption) ?

Yes, we had the electric baseboards in our place, too. We had programmable thermostats in the main living areas, and basically turned the heat down in the unused rooms. I should clarify - if you put our single hydro bill next to the neighbours' combined gas/hydro bill...we weren't horribly far off. I mean, we were probably higher...but not to the point where you'd slit your wrists. We have all-electric here in BC, too...as we're a little too far from the road for the gas to come to the house. We're set up with two households under one roof - and combined, we had a 600 dollar bill for Dec/Jan (the two coldest months of the year). My parents downstairs are old, and have the heat JACKED. I don't have the rate numbers parsed down just yet...but on the internet, they're saying we pay 8.29 cents for the first 1350 kwh, and if you go over that, it's 12 cents per. I'm not sure what our two-home was for,that time. But at least we don't have the same kind of long, cold winters of NOnt to endure here...but it's been down to -16 before for a few nights. I'm looking at those same mini-splits for some kind of A/C here.

That's cheap compared to here, esp. once you consider our kwh rates probably don't even account for half the bill.
