what on earth does electricity cost near you?

I have a grid tied solar system that produces really well. So far this winter I've only gone over by 8kwh! I'm pretty happy with that! I like watching the panels pump power all day long. The average bill for my house was 120-150 a month before solar. I pay $110 a month for the loan I took out to buy my system. We plan to pay the system off within the next couple of years so hopefully we will have no power bill or a very very little one. With the fed and state tax credits it didn't make any sense not to get a system. Plan to sell this house in 10 years also and hope it will be a good selling point.

Upgrading all your lighting to LED helps lower consumption as well. I went through the entire house inside and out replacing everything. The usage dropped by a significant amount!

But the $800 annual permit fee to operate a Generator would add up quick... at least here in California... the Hazmat fee for 180 gallons of Diesel in a double containment tank plus the fee to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and the prohibition on operation of a non-compliant older generator not meeting the required Tier Standard The Super Market adjacent to the Hospital has Diesel Rigs that come and go all hours and refrigerator trucks that idle and they don't come under either of the Generator Fee schedules mentioned above.
Put your generator in the bed of an old truck and park it. Lol.

Yeah. And rednecks are all ill educated and stupid.
The coasts for the most part have given up their freedom, and are expensive. Just the way it is. Don't be sore at me. You are the one who should move, you don't need a passport.

What did the system cost? Rich people don't talk about amount payments, poor people do that. You are also assuming in 10 years, you will not be replacing it or have major repairs. How much of it was paid by tax payer? Could you have invested the money?

You are also not paying your share for up keep, and utilities are looking at base charges. You have the ability to use grid power. Some people get upset that they have to pay for that luxoury. But you pay for a truck whether you drive it or not. Your machine breaks down, you have a back up. Power line goes down, they are not allowed to put you at bottom of list of priority.

I suspect if more people go off grid they will increase or add charges. Don't like it get off grid completely.

So you assume I'm poor because I make payments? Lol. I can tell already this will be a wildly intelligent conversation....anyways.....

System cost 32k. Between NY and Fed credits it cost me 13k and change.

Company I bought them from insures them from damage and any maintenance they need for 25 years. The panels themselves are under a warranty for 30 years and guaranteed to produce no less than 83% of max production for 25 years.

What money is there to invest? The whopping $250 I had to put down to get them installed? State and Fed money goes straight to the company I bought them from so I never touched that cash.

I'm guessing your talking about upkeep of the grid? Who said I wasn't paying my fair share? My local power company charges me $20 a month to be connected to the grid. Regardless if I used a single kWh or not. NY state has now became a net metering state. So now all the extra power my panels produce, I will get paid back in actual cash and not just kWh credits like before. So in all reality the $20 a month becomes a wash as my system does over produce like it was intended to. Why would anyone be upset to pay for the "luxury" of power? When was the world full of free stuff? Did I miss that year? ****...must of been awesome .

They can go ahead and raise rates. I'll go off grid very quickly. A few battery banks and I'm set. Already have a 10kwh propane standby generator to run through any dark times.

The larger the urban center the more the residence expect to be taken care of by the government .

No, I said poor people talk about payments, as in the actual cost is what is important. A person can get a 20 year loan, and have low payments.

As a tax payer, it bothers me to subsidy your unicorn.

Hopefully your sake, the company is around in 30 years not like some of the companies that were propped up by the government and went under.

Wrong. There is far more government aid per capita sent to rural states than highly populated states. It's the country folk who enjoy being taken care of by the Feds.

Nine of the ten states with highest percentage of federal aid are rural red states. Eight of the ten states with least government assistance are blue states with big cities.

Low payments or an electric bill, makes no difference, your gonna pay someone regardless. I'd rather it be for my system which I can use to be self sufficient after paid off.

Idk why it would bother you. That's literally the least of your worries when it comes to taxpayer money wasted. It's no unicorn. It's here and working. Sounds like you have a axe to grind for personal reasons and have little to no actual personal experience and are just flapping your gums.

I didn't buy from government funded solar city. The company I bought from has been around since the 1980s locally. They hold more large contracts than anyone around and show no signs of going anywhere. Solar is booming right now, so I'm not sure where these companies are that "went under". Pretty hard to go under during the upswing, which leads me to believe that you have no idea of what your talking about
