Handgun for arthritis

Heck, get a KelTec PMR-30, 22 Magnum, 30 rounds in the mag. Easy slide action, crisp trigger, ambi safety and the 22 WMR is a pretty awesome cartridge.

Last year, for her birthday, I bought my wife (70) a Ruger LCR .22 WMR, because her .38 had become too much for her, and was too big for her as well.
She does not have arthritis, but cannot comfortably pull the LCR trigger.
Later this month, I will give her a Charter Arms .32 H&R Undercoverette.
Hopefully she will be able to manage it.

That Mares Leg reminds me of the M-1 Carbine I had. My parents asked to borrow it because there house had been burgled at night while they were home & they wanted some protection, so instead of buying them a gun I loaned them my M-1. Of course it got stolen in about 6 months.

It was a fun gun and probably handled like the Mares leg.

Just found out, almost 50 years later that if the cops come across it, I can get it back; I just need to update my address for their records.

Sure. 1989 FBI statistic claims more 22lr have killed people in america than any other cartridge.

1993 california study showed that more 22lr firearms were collected as evidence in crimes than any other caliber.

As extra non related info, among the general public, more shootings occur with handguns than longguns, 7:1 of the general population, if you only count criminal population, it's 12:1. USDOJ report from 2002 ( firearms use ).

Alot more than can plinking and womenfolk-carrying occurs with the .22lr firearm. ;)
Ya criminals are using small cheap guns. But it defense gun for close range attacks.

Why do you think law enforcement or the military doesn't carry 22s? Illegal for deer hunting.

Survivalist like them cause you can carry a lot of ammo when running from zombies.

So if you want your wife to shoot a method head in the head, get her one. If you want her raped and killed after she shoots him 3 times in the body, get her a 22 too.

There is a great (true) story floating around the internet, about a Navy pilot who saved his own life with a .22.
The basics are, that his A-4C A/C was hit, but he managed to make it out to the Gulf of Tonkin, where he ejected.
He was unlucky, in that he got picked up by two NV fishermen, and held on their boat at gunpoint.
They stripped him of his USN issued .38.
His family had given him a .22 Ruger, which he had in his flight suit.
When one of his captors was momentarily distracted, he shot the captor in the head, 3 times with the .22.
The other captor jumped over the side of the boat.
The Navy pilot got back in his survival raft, and was picked up by the rescue helicopter.
I'll bet that particular Naval Aviator still thinks today, that a Ruger .22 is the best thing since sliced bread.

You r logic is very contorted. No one said the 22 is the BEST carry caliber.

As for deer? That's a decision based on hundred year old data. For instance, in Florida I can hunt with any centerfire caliber .224 diameter and up. That means 25 acp is legal for deer. 22lr is leaps n bounds over 25acp.

Shoot the rapist till the magazine is empty, 22lr will take the 'rape' right out of a perp once he's taken a few shots to the 'tools' and an after or two.

My wife can empty all 10+1 of her ruger MkII into a 2" circle at farther than self defense range in about 8 seconds.

Keep thinking 22lr are harmless. They are like real estate..location, location, location.

To the OP. A couple of things can be done with the Ruger Blackhawk that might help. The hammer itself can be changed to a Super Blackhawk style which lowers the spur. This might aid in cocking it for you. You could also try a Bisley model Blackhawk (or try a Vaquero just to get a feel for it). The hammer profile is similar to the Super Blackhawk and the grip is also different. This changes the way your hand is positioned which might help. If you find you like the Bisley arrangement you can convert yours as I don't believe they ever made a Bisely model in .357 mag. It's not hard to do.

Good luck.

Sorry I forgot that you can also buy some reduced power springs. Both the main spring and the trigger spring. Main spring will lessen the strength needed for cocking and both will reduce the trigger pull a bit.

When my life is at risk, and I have a blink of an eye, and I am not standing in a perfect posture, I'll take a 38+p, for a pocket gun.

25 acp may be legal, I don't know, but a 22lr still isn't. Not sure why you think 22 is better then 25.

I never said 22 is harmless just a poor choice. Its one advantage is it is small, and preppers can carry thousands of rounds.

Sure in a perfect world, where you can concentrate on your shot placement, it may do the trick if it has to.

People make the mistake of comparing rational undrugged people, to crack heads. Luckily in Fl they wont be wearing a heavy jacket. Hopefully in the real world, she will have 8 seconds, and the guy stands still. Count to 8, to see how long it is.

Better than nothing.

I say 1911 in whatever is your favorite caliber. Carry cocked and locked, as safe as they come. Great single action triggers. Just draw, sweep off the safety on the presentation. Good luck with your quest.
