Eating in the 50's

You did this on purpose? :D

Yep, wasn't the smartest thing I ever did. Since every grocery store I know of has the stuff, I figured it must be selling and maybe it was just me when I tried it many years ago. I'm not likely to do that again.

I bet you didn't drink any 2% milk eather. To us it was for the pigs.

I made some popcorn in a pan last night and was thinking about Jiffy Pop popcorn. I remember eating it as a kid and I was wondering why my mom bought the stuff since it is so easy to make popcorn on the stove. My guess was Marketing. Most likely I saw a Jiffy Pop commercial and nagged my mother to buy some.:laughing::laughing:

Later,
Dan
My impression of jiffy pop was that it was always burned, mostly saw the stuff when someone showed up at a camp out with it.

We always called it "Chef Boyareyoukidding"

Had that stuff one time at a friends house, could not figure out why anyone would want to eat it,:yuck: I was used to my moms scratch made sauce and noodles that had texture

I don't know what % ours was that we actually drank. We milked by hand and let the cream rise to separate then skimmed it off for butter. I supposed the % depended on how much cream we separated off? Mostly guernsey cows so we had decent cream

The stuff I remenber looked like 2% milk. It might of been after it was clabbered and what was not used. I'm 77 and remember feeding it to the pigs and was like water almost. Yes we always took the cream off for butter. Also them making cottage cheese.

Funny several here had pizza for the first time in OKC. My mom has told me she had pizza at Sussey's in 1956 for the first time. Sussey was on to something.

I had my first bagel while well into college.

Hmmm. Did she work for Humpty Dumpty Super Markets?

I had a few firsts when I was in college, but a bagle wasn't one of them. I had my first bagel about 1970 on a trip to Chicago. I thought it was a doughnut of some kind. So tough I couldn't eat it. Think that was my first and last; don't remember ever having another.

You aren't missing much, I don't care for them either. But maybe I never had any but the cardboard ones.
