I use hornady XTP
A CC instructor I had in Wisconsin explained to us that if your gun is loaded with purchased shells that have the name Defender or something equivalent in its name you will stand a better chance as a defendant in a trial. Any bullet will potentially kill a person, but that conveys you are trying to defend yourself or somebody else. It made sense to me.
Yep, just another senseless killing by an armed nutcase. Now what if the killer didn't have a gun, wasn't allowed to have a gun, what in the world would have happened? Maybe the 'intruders' would have left the property alive? Maybe they would have hung the property owner high for the wolves to naw at his bones?
Maybe they would all be friends sharing a case of Bud?
Guns, everyone must have a bunch to keep everyone safe; except of course the ones shot by the one who decides they aren't safe, and starts blasting away.....
Maybe not but I would rather not take the gamble while trying to explain to a jury of my peers why I load my shells hot. And i can hear it now, if it wasn't for the hot shells the victim may have lived and by loading hot shells your intent is to do great damage to the person rather than just stopping the threat.
It may never be an issue, I personally am fine just stopping the threat or slowing them down so I can get away.
What cracks me up is gun owners that insist they have to carry a .45 or a .357 mag, something bigger. I carry a .38 with 7 shells, I don't care how big you are, if you get shot in the leg your not gonna be running very fast, also if they have a gun, I'm not gonna be dumb and start a gun fight with a person. Hollywood lied, hiding behind a desk or wooden crate won't help you in a firefight lol.
That's my theory anyway.
AgreeI will bet that there is more to this story than is being reported.
Living in rural Oregon, I think there was a, now legal, pot grow on that property and that the two trespassers were trying to steal some. The women in the car that dropped them off (this is a sure clue, they were not starting a weeks long survival trek) were waiting to pick them up with the stolen crop.
What cracks me up is not ever knowing what the other guy is carrying of how big of a THUG will be coming at me. Your .38 will feel like a mosquito bite unless you hit the head or heart to a 350 pound crack head. You only get "one shot" to get it right in an altercation. Also you .38 is useless against a bear hiking in the woods, sooooo, ya go ahead carry your pea shooter I'll stick with my Glock or .357 hollow points
