You can insist that "ALL" engines theoretically use some degree of oil.

If it's so little, you can't even see it, then it's a moot point.

For many, going 20k is not going to be a problem.

My vehicles could definitely do that, without needing any oil added.

Oil that gets discolored must contain some byproduct of combustion which could be offsetting the oil usage?

Amsoil has had 25 K oil on the market for years. I wouldn't run any oil past OEM recommendations without an Oil Analysis .
It's your vehicle do as you please. But driving conditions, heat, acids, coolant leak, etc, breaks down oil.
When does the oil break down ? Who knows, but an Oil Analysis will tell ya.
No way I'm going to destroy my engine based on what an oil company says.

What does an oil analysis cost?

And you are more than welcome to do that. No point in trying to make a big deal out of it.

For most people who are used to 3k-5k oil changes....jumping right to 20k changes as this oil claims.....it would be wise to keep an eye on the dipstick til you get to know you engine and its consumption. That's all I am saying. So no sure why you want to make a big issue out of it. Do as you please, but even knowing the last 100k-150k history of my vehicles, I'd still checking that dipstick every 1500-2k. Its too easy not to.

I'm personally not interested in extending to 20k. Or, "making a big issue out of it".

I made a post to tell you, oil usage isn't necessarily a problem. You went on about it.

Blanket statement and still wrong.

No glued together cardboard in the fram filters I speak of. And the anti-drainback valves are as good as any. IF you did some research on the fram filters you may learn something. Most of the major players all have cheap glued cardboard and paper filters. Most of them also have good filters with synthetic media that are top notch. Fram is no exception. To say that all fram filters are junk is just like saying all johndeer tractors are junk when you are only basing it on the models sold at lowes.

...

When I did my research after a Fram Tuff Guard failure, granted awhile back, there were numerous sites and videos where the innards where shown between various filters. Fram always came at the bottom, or second to the bottom. Since then I have used Purolaters, which came in at the top if not the first, and never had another problem.

cut apart a fram, then cut apart a wix. big difference in the drain back valve spring in the wix vs fram. there is also date about how many microns each will filter to as well.
there is a reason wix cost more than fram

Well you can go to any store, an get a wix filter only for 5.99 That's there cheaper one. Then they make one for 11.99.

Cut apart a frame xg/ultra synthetic.

Been using that filter in everything for many many years. Big difference between it and a pH series fram

+1....... "Design to cost!" Plain and simple.

kenmac, on your micron comment, they all run about 20 give or take 1. Full flow has to be full flow. If smaller you need to go to partial flow, like bypass filtration like I had on my OTR engine which was around 5 microns but only filtered 10% of the flow or something of the sort, bypassing the 20 micron full flow in the truck.....over time it would get the whole crankcase cleaned up.

I did the disassemble a few years ago. What surprised me was that on a 2 year old PH 8A, the paper was still intact and the end caps of the filter media were glued to the filter media whereas others, including OEM house brand filters, AC Delco for one, plus others were just press fit....if you want to get personal about it. I have pictures of the PH 8A showing what I'm talking about and can dig them up and show non believers.....if that mattered!
