Handgun for arthritis

Plenty of suggestions on what guns may be applicable but have you actually looked into a remedy for the "real problem"? For instance seeing a doctor for the arthritis? It will only get worse and if you let it go too long can cause crippling deformities in the bones as well as bone loss. There was a time I couldn't lift a cup a coffee with the RA in my right wrist (my dominant hand) much less fire a pistol or even make a fist with the pain in my finders. I was hit with RA in my toes, ankles, hands and elbows. I'm down to just slight discomfort in a few joints but just started a new med today.

Don't ignore arthritis.

This may be the best post.

Something that may work is topical voltaren. Don't have to worry about gut rut. Celebrix is easier on the stomach then over the counter anti inflamatories. Plus you can take stomach meds.

You r logic is very contorted. No one said the 22 is the BEST carry caliber.

As for deer? That's a decision based on hundred year old data. For instance, in Florida I can hunt with any centerfire caliber .224 diameter and up. That means 25 acp is legal for deer. 22lr is leaps n bounds over 25acp.

Shoot the rapist till the magazine is empty, 22lr will take the 'rape' right out of a perp once he's taken a few shots to the 'tools' and an after or two.

My wife can empty all 10+1 of her ruger MkII into a 2" circle at farther than self defense range in about 8 seconds.

Keep thinking 22lr are harmless. They are like real estate..location, location, location.
The guy is having trouble pulling the trigger. 22s have triggers. He is also having trouble pulling back hammer for single action.

A different shapped hammer, grip, or slide, may help.

I like the idea of 1911, if he can get one can work the slide on or, something on it to help. I also like idea of different hammers, and grips. Small might help get a tight grip, same could be said for big grips for some.

Hogue grips can change the black hawks grip similar to double action, but it won't roll in his hand, which can help in cocking. Double action revolvers have less hammer travel.

Trying some custom triggers may be interesting. Handling lots of gun and going store to store, could be fun if he has the time.

If one of his guns he likes, he could get trigger gauge, and measure the poundage.

Is a long gun easier or worse? For semi auto rifle he could get something with big knob on slide. They also make pistol grips for racking pump shotgun.

If there is a big gun shop nearby, I would go there when dead.

Treat the ailment: Arthritis; skip the gun.

No reason he can't buy a new gun.

Can never go wrong with an old browning high power. My pops was a range master and when he started having hand issues that's what he went to. His was a 9 but they make em in .40's.

With todays Critical Defense ammo (not just the Hornady CD brand) there is really no use in having more than a 9mm for self defense. This is one of the reasons many of todays law enforcement divisions are going back to the 9mm from .40 caliber. They are finding that the 9mm gets better shot placement, especially with women, than the larger caliber guns.

What does this have to do with him not being able to pull a trigger or cock a hammer?

Some of the LEO choices may be a result of PC. They need something that makes women feel as strong as men.

Exactly correct!
I carry a 9mm, (Ruger LC9) because it is VERY easy to conceal, and at my age (76), is reasonably comfortable to use.
Larger caliber=larger frame=more difficult to conceal=leave it at home ..... instead of carry.
Likely, I will NEVER use it, but older folks are generally viewed as being defenseless.
When pumping gas, after dark, in a city environment, I am simply not interested in becoming a victim!
