I'm changing the hydraulic fluid and I'm having trouble removing the suction strainer pipe. I've removed the retaining tab and I'm able to rotate the pipe but I can't pull it out. What could be preventing me from pulling it out?:confused:

Lots of spinach  Try a screw driver under the tab and carefully work it back and forth. There is probably rust between the tab and o-ring.

You were right, the tab was rusted to the reservoir. Once the rust was broken, I was able to pull it out. Now I have to find some hydraulic fluid in VG-100 weight.

Wow....what a mess, the hydraulic oil drained every where, based on the location of the stub pipe, I don't know how that can be managed? Anyone found a way? I guess a giant opening of a low profile container placed under the tractor? but once it goes through the floor it drips in all kinds of directions?

I have three HST tractors that contain up to 10 gallons of fluid to drain. My largest is tall enough to use two 5 gallon pails. But lately I have been using two 5 gallon oil drainage pans, bought on sale at Advance Auto.. but avail lots of places. I put a large piece of cardboard down, then situate the two pans in a handy position and have at it... Works OK even with my shorter clearance tractors...

I've had those for years; they are great, make it easy to dump into a waste drum, and if you are reusing the fluid after your repair, you can dump it right back in.
