New Kubota M7040SUHD or not!

Hi Everyone,

New member here...I have the opportunity to buy a new dealer left over M7040SUHD. Dealer is about 2km (1mile) away, on 2 quotes, they have the best price.

I am just starting out into the farming/homesteading world plan to use the tractor for 10-20 acres of field work wheat and hay, for maintaining a number of vegetable gardens and a myriad of other things like logging, snowplowing, landscaping etc..

The reason for going to the 70HP is for the tax exemption (no tax for 60HP and up at the PTO), why not get the larger sized tractor for the incremental extra cost.

Been having a little difficulty finding any specific info on this model tractor (lots of comments on the standard model 7040) is there anyone out there that can give some insight into this machine pros/cons, likes /dislikes, experiences.

Is this tractor going to withstand the test of time in the 3 point hitch, controls, etc..






Any help is much appreciated.

The M7040 is out of my area of familiarity, but I have to ask, wouldn't a cabbed tractor be... ah, more user friendly there in North? Cabs come with downsides, of course, but if the weather is bad and you need to work with your tractor, a cab is very handy. Perhaps I am just getting old and weak, but the cold isn't my friend any more.

Haha...i agree a cab would be nice but i believe the warm days will outweigh the cold...i hope! And a cab would require upgrading to the M7060 which at this time would exceed my budget.

if the price is competitive, your choice would be in imho better that the current M7060 for obvious tier 4 restrictions, etc. great machine including limited slip ft axle. to answer your last question, the M series has it all over L & grand L in those regards. maybe post asking price for forum opinions...had that model for a year till i upgraded to my current model....nice to have dealer so close best regards

That's a nice tractor and there are several guy's here that also have just taken delivery or have one. They should be along here shortly. Enjoy!

The M7040 and it's earlier version, the M6800 will likely go down as one of the best tractors ever built by Kubota. I got a great deal on one last fall so I bought it. Holdovers are scarce around here and that tractor would sell in five minutes. Buy it.

I investigated the SUHD series several years ago and decided against it because the 4 speed main transmission is synchronized only in third and fourth. I do not know if this has been changed but you may want to check.

FWIW, the SUHD series are cost reduced models vis a vis the non SUHD models.

true, the su models are bare bones. also think this model has gear shift midway rather than on right hand control panel...however if the operator has patience shifting into non syncro 1 & 2nd, this model is way cheaper than xx60 tier 4 models, and considerably more robust than the L, grand L & MX series. the advantages far outweigh the drawbacks of this utility model imho

I have the 2009 M6040HD-1 hydraulic shuttle. If you haven't already bought the unit you are looking at - you better jump on it. A brand new 7040 with tier 3 emissions is rare as hens teeth around here. Actually - I haven't heard of a new one in over four years.

As a matter of fact - since you mentioned it on this site - I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if its already gone by tomorrow.

You are looking at a tractor, IMHO(in my humble opinion) that with proper maintenance, will last you a lifetime.

Mine will start in any weather, pulls any and all Class ll implements, and has been a real joy to own and operate.

Mine is used to maintain my mile long gravel driveway(summer grading, winter plowing) - it easily runs a Wallenstein BX62s chipper as I chip 750-900 small pines to maintain my tree stands, will lift the heaviest of rocks & move large chunks of Ponderosa pine with the Land Pride SGC1560 grapple. It also pulls a moldboard plow, land plane grading scraper(LPGS), disk harrow and Rhino 950 rear blade. My tractor tips the grain scales at 10,100 pounds. It has a grapple on the FEL, Rim Guard in the rear tires and Rhino 950 rear blade on the 3-point.

Mine is open station as I think I'm a little claustrophobic and really do enjoy being out in the fresh air.

You will be hard pressed to find a better tractor in that HP range. Mine is eight years old and NEVER had a moments difficulty with it.

And having a dealer that close would be nice. The only downside - its going to take a plastic surgeon to get the grin off your face if you buy it and learn its many uses.

This one is fully synchronized. The older center shift version with the dry clutch had the crash box.
