Another good reason to drop the land line besides saving some $$$... and I recommend registering on the 'Do Not Call' government site. This cut our unsolicited calls to virtually zero.

National Do Not Call Registry

Thanks for that link.
They actually have been calling my cell which was activated last year.
We dropped landlines around 10 years ago.

Again, thanks for the link...we have been getting such an increased number of "spam" calls that I was afraid we were no longer on the DoNotCall list...just verified that our numbers are still on the list, since 2003. So wonder why the recent uptick in junk calls? We never answer any, but they are annoying.

I registered our cell phone on the National Do Not Call Registry about eight years ago. I maybe get 1-2 unsolicited calls per month since registering and almost 100% of those are wrong number calls. If you want to get rid of scam calls - that's the way to go.

I get 3 or 4 calls a day at work saying they are from Google and my account needs updating . They are not really from Google. It is just irritating as I have to drop what ever I am doing and run to the phone. I have asked them to put me on the "do not call list." but that doesn't help. If I have time I will play their game and tell them I don't know who Google is, and will go into that I am on welfare and will they accept food stamps. Some times I will tell them my momma said I am not supposed to talk to strangers. Some times I will bang the phone and tell them we have a bad connection. Have registered on the "do not call list" at work and home but still get them every day. One called and asked "can you hear me" and I asked are you from Verizon. I got so many calls saying they are from Google that I got annoyed and said the person they want died and no longer in business. For some reason then Google removed my business listing and having trouble getting it back on. I consider it no different that theft when they call me because time is money and they are stealing it.

I use my phone for business so I answer calls from numbers I do not recognize. If it's a telemarketer and I have time I'll listen to their sales pitch. At the end I double the amount of money they want and I'll give them my lawyers phone number. I just calmly say that I need a security deposit before I can do business with their company. Usually I just get a very satisfying "click" as an irritated telemarketer hangs up on me.

All telemarketer calls get the contact name "Do not answer" in my cell phone. (No land line). It's amazing how many telemarketers use the same number. Once in a while I'll get a "local" call but if you look closely most of the time the first three numbers are 011 403 654 xxxx. Dead giveaway that it's a telemarketer.

Since I've started doing these two things my telemarketer calls have dropped to maybe 2-3 calls a year. I've never listed my number in a registry.

Even if you have your phone registered on the do not call registry, the only thing it cuts down are the actual telemarketers. Scammers are using voice over IP, or hacking and using random phones.

I've gotten three separate calls from card holder services in the same day. One was local, two were from other states. Calling the number back usually results in a recording saying the phone number is disconnected. Occasionally I get a live person wondering why I called them. I'll then explain to them about getting a robo call or scam call from there number. And send them a screen shot of my call log as proof.

Had a scam call from Microsoft tech support a while back. Work phone showed a number originating
From Ohio. Several hours later, they called my personal phone and it showed that the call came from China. They left a voice mail  Got to looking at the rest of the numbers and realized that it was the same number that called my work phone earlier in the day.

Been using Voip.ms :: Worldwide VoIP Origination and Termination for the past 6 years, in my configuration panel added anonymous callers as blocked. Also use an app called zoiper on my cell phone for world wide long distance calling, a great way to avoid expensive cell service.. Zoiper - Free VoIP SIP softphone dialer with voice, video and instant messaging :: Zoiper

Probably a few other work around's for long distance and call blocking but this works for us and we've been pleased with the voip ms service.

Voip ms provides E911 emergency calling

For thoise of you having a business wanting a global presence you can obtain a 1 800 number within minute, or a number from from any location on the list below. Calls from those locations will be directed to your USA office, land line or cell.

Dropped our landline 3 years ago. Only calls we got on it was either scammers or telemarketers. Never missed it. do leave one cordless phone connected to phone jack as you can still call 911 if needed. Average 2-3 scam call a month on cell. never answer if I do not recognize number or in my contacts.
