Ah-oh, I said yes

I used to try to be polite, knowing that some people are hard up enough for whatever reason that telemarketing was the only job they could find. I admire someone that will take a crappy job like that rather than wait for Uncle Sugar to bail them out.

But enough is enough. I'm not rude, I'm not profane, but you've got 5 seconds to convince me that you're somebody I want to talk to, and then I hang up.

I suspect these telemarketers actually make a pretty good wage though it is based on commissions. When you do talk to one they are not ill educated. Personally I'd rather earn my living by asking you if you wanted fries with that than to barge into someone's life as a telemarketer and hassle the crap out of innocent fellow citizens. So, while I did used to simply say no and hang up, I find these new sneaky computer systems (...oh, my headset must have been off...) beyond the pale. Now, when I do reach a human I tell them to F right off. I'm becoming a crotchety old bastard and loving it.

One thing I never understood was we used to get calls on the landline where the caller spoofed our number. Did they think we would answer because our number was on caller ID?

I also had someone call me back to back on my cell spoofing a local number. I didn't answer, thinking they would leave a message. Instead they sent a text from a different area code saying they needed to talk to me about my computer. I guess they forgot to spoof the number when sending the text.

Used to work out of an office complex. Place across the courtyard was telemarketing. They would have morning training sessions and "pep talks" in the courtyard. After eavesdropping on a couple of those pep talks about on how they closed the sale, I was pretty disturbed.

Some of the people were honest and trying to scrape by. I respect that. What disturbed me was one of the supervisors bragging about talking kids into getting mommas credit card number :mad: Couple of us made discreet, anonymous phone calls to the city PD before the day was over about the supervisor.
