I'd probably go with bullseye, maybe unique. But it really doesn't matter. Light load is a light load.

very very very very easy to double, tripple, qad, etc, etc, charge a large volume pistol case with those powders mentioned. Impossible with trailboss. Minimum charge is 70% of the free case volume under the seated projectile. max charge is 100% of the free case volume under the seated projectile, with NO compressed loads. Free space only.

Plus very light loads with a very fast burning powder like bullseye can also cause a detonation. NOT good.

exactly.

the fast burn is good.. but the super duper light loads can be not good. ;)

On the other hand.. trailboss is fast.. but the load is well over, even multiple times over the case volume of most other powders except maybee H or imr 4227 ;) a max load of h4227 on a 110gr 357mag can be 21gr charge. that's well beyond most pistol powder charges ( by volume ).

I do like cases that are near full, it helps with sloppyness If I use up the bullseye I have on hand I will think about it. Unil then, if I want a light load, I will use bullseye or unique. Also unique bugs me the way it pours.

Well, trailboss meters odd too.. the flakes are donut shaped... very bulky powder. I usually end up hand charging when I do trailboss.

When you say hand charging, you mean throwing a load, light, then way and trickling? Which I do with lots of stuff.

Hand charging a case with powder to me means not using your progressive press to automatically dump powder from the measure. Hand charging could be what you suggest of throwing a light load by hand from a powder measure and weighing on a scale and trickling up to the desired charge weight, or it could mean using a dipper or some other means of transferring powder into the scale pan and getting to the weight desired manually. In any case hand charging means that you are monitoring the exact weight of the charge that goes into the case not letting an automatic powder dump occur from a progressive press/measure.

The reason for hand charging is because you suspect that a particular powder may not throw reliable even weighted charges thru the automatic measure because of the shape and size of the powder grains. Such powders are said to "not meter well".

H. Such powders are said to "not meter well".

Yes, I know. But with some people I just don't know.

I mostly RCBS powder measure. To me hand can also mean measuring each one. Depending on what I am loading and the powder, I may just dump it in the brass. With stick or hunting loads I may measure and trickle. My new RCBS seems to cut the sticks better then my old one.

When I think of by hand, I think of a dipper, but I realize that can go with either way.

I know some people don't care for them, but I've been using the Lee dippers for about 27 years. I also load everything on a single stage press. I don't shoot high volume, so it works fine for me, and I really enjoy the intimate interaction with each round.

For trail boss I dipper into a scale, or use a custom made dipper and charge directly to case.

For instance 45-70, I have a custom made volume dipper for trailboss ( only ).

The donuts just don't run thru a rotating cavity thrower without crushing, and for tv, crushing I detrimental.

My Lyman dps 1200 auto thrower works fine however, no cutting as its pretty much just a super fast trickler anyway.
