I'm on my second Beretta, 92 Elite, and while I really like it, good shooter and fits my hand, I found it too big to carry comfortably for me at least. My youngest son used one in two branches of the military and has laid claim when I'm gone.

Another vote for S&W shield. I just paid $399 minus a $75 rebate with a 7 and 8 mag. Only put a couple of magazines through so far, but I like it.

My recommendation is get something you will carry every day. That usually means something smaller and lighter. Ruger LCP's and similar are very easy to carry and conceal. I also know a couple of people that have the smaller Sigs in 9 mm. They are very nice also but are to big for pocket carry.

I didn't mention it because the .380 is pretty puny for most folks but my carry is a Ruger LCP Custom. I love the thing and it's long trigger. I can carry it even wearing a pair of shorts. In a pocket it looks like a cell phone or wallet. It's not the best for self defense and not for guys with large hands but as they say " it's far better than the .45 you left at home" .

I carry either my Sig 238 in .380 or my Sig P320 compact in 9mm. The 320 is amazing , I have the compact and full size. I have a P226 TacOps in 9mm, but I like the trigger on the 320 better

LCP is only gun I ever sold
Ruger sent it back to me, told me 4 failures in 400 us normal. Then Hornady or Corbon jammed. Got rid of it. Bought j frame. Not as small but it shoots 5 times.

How does it fit your hand with the 7 round mag? I bought a Pearce mag extension ($10.), and it now works for me.
