Has anyone moved the SIM to a different device?
I saw on HoFo that someone did, but not sure if they kept it that way for any amount of time.

I could get 2 of these for the same money as my current 10GB (with 10GB bonus data) plan.

My chat lady said it throttled too, instead of de-prioritized. This forum shouldn't know more than the AT&T lady, but obviously does. Grrr.

AT&T reps are not well trained. I have read mixed success on moving the sim, I like plan to much to abuse it and risk losing it by moving to a non-approved device, but like all things I am sure a few out there are abusing the **** out of it, which in turn ruins it for the rest of use most of the time.

Finially after they guy had talked to some other people he said that it would have to be activated on the $40 plan and then they could switch it to the $20
He is wrong and not on the Standalone Connected Car plan.

When we went to the AT&T coporate store, it took a few tries on her computer to get to the right plan.

Mine came from Best Buy's eBay store, with a sim card. She had no problem activating it with the $20 plan.

We did not have an AT&T wireless account.

So I just chatted, and "Natalie D" says that $20/mo is for the plan, but doesn't include the "line charges".
She lists it as $135 (before taxes) for the monthly cost (which includes the $20/mo plan).

Seems directly opposite of what everyone here is saying.
Are people missing that only to be surprised on their first bill?

Thoughts?

That doesn't make any sense and is not consistent with anything I've seen written about the Mobley so far. What is consistent is that AT&T reps often are not well informed about the many, many permutations of services and devices offered by their company.

Sounds like your talking to regular customer service and not the connect car dept., no the plan is $20 stand alone, not an add on line. Its been well documented for almost a year now, so no surprise charges

It can be an add-on line if you are an existing AT&T mobile customer. I added the $20/unlimited Mobley plan & device to my existing AT&T account via their web site after logging into my account.

That's good to know for people that already have AT&T.

I guess I'm not sure how moving it to a different device is abusing the **** out of it. Given the deprioritization, what is abusing? Torrenting? It's just data, just like watching youtube would be. Hit the limit, go to the back of the line.

For the record (if that was directed at me), I'd like to move the SIM to a roof-mounted router that gets much better signal than anything on/near the ground. It also is a more "industrial" router, it seems. Needs rebooting less often. Anyway, the network application would be identical. Actually, I'd probably use it less, as I wouldn't take it camping then. Just saying......

LOL! that looks bad, but I actually said h e ll not the other 4 letter word, I guess this forum even censors that. I honestly don't know how these things work but it does say in the terms that it must be an "approved aftermarket device", so as long as AT&T is ok with it I guess its not abusing, from what I can tell only the mobley and that audiovox one are the only 2 approved aftermarket devices. I know what you mean data is data but most carriers I have dealt with don't see it that way, most charge more for unlimited data on a smartphone vs flip-phone.

Didn't sound just right to me either. Just have to see how it plays out.

I started out at our local AT&T store trying to buy one. They had never heard of the device. Said I would need to go to a corporate store. I guess they are just pretending to be AT&T :) I didn't think there was any need in going back there to activate the one I got.

Also don't call regular customer service, call the connected car dept.

Here is their # 1-866-595-1250

Again that still is no guarantee they know about it but they are the only dept that can do it and at least your at the right place. Someone in the other forum mentioned they called connected car and asked about activating the mobley on the $20 unlimited plan, the rep didn't know about it so they hung up and immediately called again, second rep same thing, hung up called again and third one new exactly what it was and had activated in 5 minutes. I like this approach, no need to fight with someone that doesn't know what they are doing, just hang up and try again.

Of course its easiest just to activate online like I did :)
Even some of the "Connected Car" people are clueless. They connected me to ZTE who could do nothing. Then the next time I called the guy was going to send a text message to me on my Mobley number.
