Cheap $20 a month Stand Alone Unlimited Rural Internet through AT&T Wireless

I was going to sign up as band with sharing/ backup internet at home, since 23$ is very cheap.. But I'm not going to beg them to connect me to the plan they sell, if they don't know how to do it, nor will I subject myself to holding for 20 minutes to do so. And this whole security/fraud/new SIM and wait thing is simply unacceptable and att should be embarrassed.

Looking at the paperwork we got from the AT&T Store, it is in the Mobility section and is listed as " Unlimited Data Connect Car", $20/month.

It shows the Mobley phone number followed by "Zte Vm6200 (Primary Line) $20.00"

I had posted previously that some times upload is faster than download. Here are two snips from SpeedOf.Me, HTML5 Speed Test | Non Flash/Java Broadband Speed Test

Signal was -105 dBm, time was 0903:

There are two USB ports shown in the pics. the USB power is via microUSB on the same side as the LAN/WAN yellow ports. The full size USB connection for tethering appears to be to the right of that, on the opposite corner from the antenna. It's vertical. You can see it lableled in the circuit board pic too.

This confuses me more. Throughout this thread is talk of power via OBDII only. Now you are saying it can be powered through a micro usb port?

It can't be powered through microUSB port, you still need to power it through the obd plug, but you can connect to router through USB port

We have ours attached to a router through the USB port now, seems to help speed some, getting very good speeds, just ran a speed test right now

Wow! That is terrible speeds, is there anyway you can somehow force it off LTE and to 3G, even 3G around here is around 5 dn

Most of the time the speeds are between 1 and 2 Mbps, which is slow but usable. When the muddy county road dries out from our 4 inch rainfall, I will plug it into my truck and try it closer to the tower.

No, I wasn't. The person asking the question I answered in your quote was asking about the mini router someone linked to on Amazon (see post #268). That mini router has a microUSB power input and can be tethered via USB to the Mobley.

The Mobley can only be powered via OBD-II. Its USB port is for tethering.

Just did an interesting (to me) exercise. As I've posted before my AT&T phone connection purely sux, but surprisingly my AT&T LTE data connection has been reliable. I have a cottage about 300 ft from main house that I rent out with basic services, including wifi. My ISP of the last 12 years has gone out of business and the service absorbed by another company. Today, I got my new invoice, but seeing only around .5mbs dl both locations. Took my Mobley, USB power connector, and my MAC Air. Drove around in my golf cart various points on property and near cottage. Observed signal strength in Attwifimanager and did numerous speed tests. Results varied, but I always got a usable signal.
Once I get my new GL router, the goal is to send signal to Cottage via Picostation/Nanostation with the Mobley at the house.
Also thinking I just might add a 12vdc connection to my golf cart and tractor.
I'm awaiting my 2nd Mobley, this one from BestBuy. I hope to activate online, add to my exiting Mobley account.

Bought one (outright for $99) at worstbuy.
They couldn't activate over the phone, but I just did it online by adding a line and bringing my own device. No activation, $20/mo. I did the option that was NOT adding it to the existing plan. So, I should be good to go. Will go plug it in and test it, I guess.

So, it has a SIM in it, but the activation didn't require any info from the SIM. That seems weird, doesn't it?

I agree B U T.... the SIM seems to be a big problem for me.

Oh boy is this fun... mine showed up from ebays ( Best Buy) and what a circus, actually on the 4th go around was transferred to Onstar talked to them thinking I was still talking to ATT and after giving my Rams Vin# and being told my vehicle couldn't possibly work because it was to old to work. ?? Rep finally said this is On star :mur::laughing:

Kept calling till I got a sharp gal ( I thought) and she got me approved and set up and activated with a new account, phone # issued and a code... Said to call mobile connect if I have (any) problems.

Went to connect and lap top says not the correct network security key -

so back to calling the mobile connect which tells me that there is a problem with fraud with these devices, and says has nothing to do with me but they will have to send a new sim card to my residence or I can drive to the Corporate store , I ask if the ATT store that is about 5 miles away is a corporate store he says no you have to go to this one - Which is about 70 miles away... 1 WAY!
I say I will be Da--ed if I am going to drive 100+ miles to their corporate store to just activate themobley, He says Oh - well we can send you a new sim card and activate it then.

tell him how ridiculous this seems to me, I bought the Mobley outright, they already got me to give up my SS#, DOB, Drivers License #, home address, home phone (same one for over 25 years) email address and Ram's VIN .

Just called again since no email has shown up of any kind, trying to figure out why no email notification, the gal found the error in the email address but resigns me UP?? and Now have priority shipping on the SIM but can't do anything else and also says I have to be signed up with the $30 plan until Mobley is activated :pullinghair: and assigns a new phone # for the device.

ARGH

was able to find ATT's coverage map and zoom in and (looks) like we have ATT 4G LTE
AT&T Maps - Wireless Coverage Map for Voice and Data Coverage from AT&T

I had similar experiences, for a technology company they have the most clueless workers.
