that is weird. I have always been taught that signal is speed. Obviously not *strictly* true.

Not true at all with digital technologies.

The signal they are reading is probably what we call, "RSRP". "Reference Signal Received Power". That's a raw signal measurement of part of the LTE transmission, which is used as a reference for timing.

What matters to speed is the signal to noise ratio, or SINR. You can have a strong RSRP and a low SINR, in which case you'll wonder why your strong signal is delivering very poor performance.

Low SINR with a strong signal usually means you have interference.

In the last exciting episode of "The Mobley", I was waiting for my sim card to arrive. It arrived and I tried to call the same AT&T rep that I was dealing with and never could get an answer. I finally gave up and called the connect number. The rep that answered was very helpful but was fighting with his computer. Anyway after 36 minutes on the phone with him my sim card was activated. I also had him to confirm that I was signed up for the Connected Car Unlimited Data Plan for $20 per month standalone.

I connected the Mobley to the AC adapter that I purchased and plugged it in. I connected to it with my laptop with ease. Speed test results using Speedtest.net are 5.16 Mbps down and 2.19 Mbps up.

Yay! glad you got it going.

Also if I was you I would login to att website to check your plan, just to make sure they did it right.

He is not the only one.... Me To :cool2::cool2::dance1::drink:

IT was a battle but I now have a working Mobley.

I waited 30+ hours since calling yesterday morning , but after rechecking my email repeatedly and seeing no Info from ATT , just couldn't take it any more and once again called. This time i got a lady named ( Kennedy) that said I can't believe how many of our representatives are having problems getting these ZTE Mobleys activated.

After explaining the hours on the phone and many representatives I previously spoke with to her and re stating how the last person i spoke with had sent another SIM out priority ,

She sighed and said YOU DON'T NEED ANOTHER SIM:eek:

She told me to take the unit to the local ATT and get it activated , gave me my account # ( a number that I had not been given before) and said:

DO NOT leave until they get the Mobley activated. Tell them to call support or who ever they need to.

I said the other people said It had to be a corporate store AND ATT headquarters insisted on having to send a new SIM .

She said they were absolutely wrong and on top of that your account is just sitting there (pending) NO SIMS have been sent out.. OR are even scheduled to be sent- and you Have been signed up for the 450 plan...

I was flabbergasted at this and told her that I felt that the previous people had (misled) me about the SIM

So grabbed my paperwork and once I talked to the ATT person at the LOCAL franchised store he went thru almost an hour and a half to get the Mobley activated with the sim that came with it ( they saw their 1st ZTE mobley earlier in the day)

He had to fight the computer to get me off of the 450 plan and I would otherwise had to wait another 3 days to get the plan switched. Turned out to be the (calendar) issue mentioned earlier in this thread- where the day must be high lighted to do a change.
The local sales person Was put on hold, and repeatedly questioned to the point he was getting irritated with ATT's over complication of the activation process. He also did have to remove the SIM card and read the numbers off to one of the support people.

One of the contacts wanted to know why I didn't activate the Mobley immediately after buying it from Best Buy, - said that is kind of hard when Best Buy charged my Paypal and then waited 3 days to ship it...

In the end- he GOT Er done and also wrote down some notes , phone #'s and said Hopefully the next one will be easier.

ps. ran some speed tests on a couple different sites, seem to be averaging around 6mbs download earlier and just ran a (speed of me) download test and got 15+mbs
up loads were over 4mbs earlier but have dropped to about 2 mbs

All I can say is THANK YOU ZIMY and everyone else.

An interesting exercise today. Installed the Nanostation at my cottage to extend current coverage from the house, but only about 3mbs dl, so I guess I must have something messed up in the Picostation settings :( my router wifi was about the same.
But I wanted to see IF the Mobley would work up there, almost same direction to AT&T Tower but maybe 30-40 ft higher. Plugged it in, my 7inch external antenna connected (see 1). Immediately saw 16mbs dl. Sure didn't expect that. Of course this was outside on the bedroom lanai. Decided I'd put on the end of lanai, better protected from wx (see2).
What a surprise to see 25mbs dl.

Left it there for tenant to play with. Seriously considering mounting external antenna and router at cottage, possibly beaming signal back to house for admin as opposed to original plan to install everything at house and just beam the wifi to cottage.

Not true at all with digital technologies.

another interesting thing, at least to me.....

I have a 10GB (plus 10 bonus gigs) at&t data-only SIM in a Bandrich router (pretty expensive "industrial" router with internal "high gain" antenna left over from a previous service provider). Not mine, but looks like this:Bandluxe E512 LTE Outdoor CPE | eBay
Then I got the mobley.

I'm only going to keep one. I figured I could transfer service to the Bandrich and then have an "empty" mobley for future summertime-only use (at $20/mo., I can have it for camping!). Anyway, turns out the Bandrich is consistently slower, mounted up on the roof with -65db signal. The Mobley is on my night stand with -105db signal. Usually the upload speed on the bandrich is better though.

I recall the installer saying (in their testing) it would give me better signal, better uploads, but download would be *slightly* worse.

So I guess I'm punting on the bandrich for the 2M difference it gives me. Off to buy a new router and long-*** USB cable.

I took Mr.Mobley to work today and ran a speed test from speedtest.net again. I got 9.18 down and 4.52 up which is much better that home but I do live in a very rural area. I am very pleased with the unit and service so far (except for the painful setup with AT&T).

I also logged into my AT&T account and verified that my plan is the $20 unlimited plan.

I've been trying to get over 22GB to see what happens.
Almost hard to do when you've been conserving data for years.
Also doesn't help that I'm never home... Stinking families. :p

Looking at the paperwork we got from the AT&T Store, it is in the Mobility section and is listed as " Unlimited Data Connect Car", $20/month.

It shows the Mobley phone number followed by "Zte Vm6200 (Primary Line) $20.00"

Have everything working except for emails and account access.

Not sure what I am doing wrong but can't seem to access my bill or account info and still haven't received any emails at all .
Mobley site itself works fine
thanks for the signal strength info was able to gain about 3 db just moving the mobley.
