Federal Judge Dismisses Suit Against 'Drone Slayer'

Cell phone jammers are in common use in movie theaters and concert halls. Do you never wonder how an event like a Kennedy Center concert can be held with nobody getting phone calls? There are many exceptions to the regulations you cite.

And they are illegal to deploy, just as he pointed out. They are sold, they are deployed, and they are illegal. And on top of that they could cause loss of life.

For instance at that concert is a surgeon who is badly needed to save your life after you have been in a terrible auto accident. He is the only surgeon who is within distance or has the skills necessary to save your life. However the hospital was unable to reach him due to the jammer. You are now dead. Sorry about that.

That would be all fine and well if only the “Doctors on call” had their cell phones on in theatres, movies , , classrooms , restaurants , but that is not the case, so I look forward to more anti jam of those being deployed. As for the Doctors on call, they should not go to the theatre when they are on call.
Boy I wonder how we all survived without cell phones and drones in the 50’s and 60’s and somehow we made it. Without being the most important person in the room that has to be available to his mother, his wife, his kids and employer twenty four hours a day seven days a week.

I have better than a clue. I have facts, which I have cited twice.

You, on the other hand, have nothing more than an uninformed and incorrect opinion.

LoL...and the USA does not have a problem with illegal immigrants because we have laws...!...don't quit yer day job there Sherlock...

Well, the world has changed. Of course like everyone else at one time when you left the house or your work location you were just out of communication. And if you were "on call" you were expected to stay in your house by the telephone. Yep, you could not even go outside unless someone was left to answer the phone. We risked it sometime and we got into trouble too. You sure as heck could not take you wife out to dinner or to the movies. Then we got the pager. Well it was both a blessing and a curse. We could go to dinner and the movies with the wife but if the pager went off we had to find a telephone to find out where to go and what to do. We loved the freedom, but hated that search for that darn phone. You got to where you knew where every pay telephone in the city was located.

Then we got the first clunky cell phones. Now we were cooking, no more having the rain and snow and sleet coming thru the cracked side window of your car, no more trying to cross traffic to get over to that dang pay phone. Just pull out your "brick" and find out what the heck you needed to do.

You see even then some of us had to be available to our employers 24 hours a day 7 days a week. People depended on us. I did this for over 20 years until I got a better position that didn't require twitching out of a fitful sleep every time a lightning bolt was heard. You just waited for the phone to ring. I guess some of you don't know that that is like.

So, no, I don't think deploying cell phone jammers is the answer to the problem of people in a movie theatre that are displaying rude behavior. Some people in that theatre are depending on their phones to work. Someones life may very well depend on it. I put my cell phone on silent when I go into a movie theatre because I am mostly retired now and no one depends on my response.

That hospital's or police departments phone system going down is not my problem anymore. But it sure was at one time.

The life risking aspect is a bit over the top and on the emotional side...I'm sure most venues (including theaters) that have "certain" restrictions have in house paging services for their clientele...

One of the types of places that IMO it is utterly stupid not to block all cell traffic is around criminal prison systems where even having phones etc. is not allowed...

Also companies have the right to protect their proprietary and intellectual properties from thieves etc via electronic surveillance of any type or methods...many companies do not allow employees from possessing any electronic devices while on their campuses etc...

Some sporting etc. events have restrictions...for instance...one line from the list of prohibited items from 'The Masters' Golf Tournament: Cell Phones/Cellular capable devices/Beepers/Electronic devices/Tablets

Unfortunately probably nine out of ten people do not silence their phones , so kudos to you James , but because of the rest of the rude ones, we then need jammers. Cell phones are sort of like a dog choke chain collar , at the right times they give us a jerk and we react to it , but many times the leash gets jerked and we have to react even though it was unnecessary interruption. The smart ones know the dog should have some time without the choke chain on.
As for never being on call , your wrong, worked for a underground mine operation , when I was needed I needed to drive out, but when I was away from the phone (and the delegated one on call) , I just called in from wherever I was and checked my messages , or stayed close to home or let wife know where I was. Not that hard to do.

My take from that article was that the 'drone slayer' and the pilot probably had some history. The shooter may have been lying in wait for a 'visit' from the drone.

How long will it be until we have counter attacking drones to take down the privacy invading drones?

TBS
Denmark Authorities are training eagles to catch and retrieve drones. Safer than Shotguns. It is amazing that an eagle doesn't mind the spinning plastic propellers, grabbing and snagging a fairly large drone back to his handler for a treat.

Sort of a like the movie Avatar, in miniature.

A lot of interesting post here. Enjoyed the article on the flight that disappeared. We have a neighbor who did have RC airplanes. He lives on what now has become long private drive that lines up to our property and used that road for his air strip. I enjoyed his flying of his planes and we never talked about them. Maybe had I he would still be doing so but he has small subdivision on each side of him now might be why he quite or got tired of the planes no idea. A drone obviously just flying along like those RC planes would not bother me but if it looked to be snooping would not be happy. Sort of like the unknown car slowing down as it passes your property and then speeding up after it gets by...just makes you wonder the reason.

Please go find the number to a local theater and see if you can have someone paged at any of them and let us know how many you can do that at.

I really was not referring to neighborhood "movie theaters" per se...I've seen kiosks at several sports venues where doctors and others who are on mandatory stand by can register their seats so they can be alerted etc...I imagine most performing art venues that cater to similar clientele offer the same services...
