Fight back. Get a big, cheap speaker and play opera for them.

Bruce

Heh. Fellow I worked with did that with a neighbor who brought his big speakers out onto the porch and cranked up the crap while he washed his car. My colleague responded with bagpipe music.

He won. :D

Agreed. I got a chance to shoot at RC airplanes in the Army. When you have a company of infantrymen with M-16s and M-60 machine guns, and they can't hit an RC plan flying along their line at maybe 200 feet out, well, you learn that it's pretty hard to hit a moving aircraft.

I also agree. I also had the training in the infantry to shoot down RC aircraft. Most shooters can not do it. I have been flying RC planes long before drones were born. At my RC flying club we would have an annual fun raiser with paint ball guns trying to shoot down RC airplanes.

Reads like typical case of "the laws don't apply to me".

Reads more like "I don't want to be an intrusion". But you can interpret it any way you like.

All those in this thread that don't break the law stand up please!!!! :confused2:

It's called "cafeteria style" citizenship.... pick and choose the laws we want to obey and living with the choices. I was doing that on 80/90 driving back from Pittsburgh yesterday. 1 over? 5 over? 8-9 over? Breaking the law a little in heavy traffic. Breaking the law bit more in light traffic. And a bit more when no traffic. Most people don't care if you exceed the speed limit as long as you aren't a danger to anyone else. As time goes by and drones become even more common, I'd guess most people won't care if a drone is too high if it isn't bothering them. And I doubt the FAA will care if you're out in the middle of farm country no where near a flight path and exceed the max height within reason.... So what's 'within reason'? Well, there is no 'within reason' when you're getting a fine. Don't know if the FAA will have officer discretion as road police seem to have. But they'll probably never come out unless there is a 'good reason' in the first place. :confused3:

Loud music is more likely from recorded media. Short of a small NUKE for some EMP, it would be difficult to jam. On the other hand, using an old discarded microwave magnetron aimed at the drivers brain, might be effective. I once heard there were such instructions available on line.

That might be the cure for loud motorcycles as well.

I just want something that will jam the boom box in the car next to me at red lights.

TBS

I miss my old work truck with a hot rodded motor and exhaust. Just left foot brake and rev it up a bit. They always noticed.

Yep. And my theory is to not give them a reason. My ultimate goal is to never have someone officially file any kind of complaint against me. When I talk to people about flying near them they look at me like "what the H are you asking me for, fly it where you like". But I am very rural and it's always flying near people I know on a first name basis. :)

Oh man, don't get me started.......

How about "poker runs", that's even more bizarre..... :confused3:

You do realize that most "radar" used by the ATC relies more on the transponders on the plane telling it where the plane is than on actual radar seeing the plane right?
Drop the transponder and you disappear...

Aaron Z

If all it takes is turning off a transponder, that makes defending a border quite the challenge.

Domestic US radar may be more limited than I assumed..... also wasn't aware that the US military was routinely flying heavy transponder-less drones domestically.

I learn more than just tractor stuff hanging around here.....

Unless you are NORAD, there is no radar coverage on most of the United States and the FAA doesn't control even half of those radars out there. Municipal and GA airports have radar, but those are not federal employees.

We have govt departments up here too that also have no meaningful way to police what they allegedly oversee....

As it was explained to me, there's two different radar systems in use. One can see almost all airplanes and determine distance and heading, but it can't determine altitude. The other sends out a signal that transponders recognize. When the transponder detects that second type of radar, it squawks (returns) a number that the pilot was instructed to squawk. Air traffic control keeps track of the altitude they told you to fly at. So, if your have a transponder, and they tell you to squawk 1234, and fly at 10,000 feet, that's how they "best guess" your actual altitude. They are essentially trusting you to fly at the altitude they told you to, but don't really have a great way to verify that you are, indeed, actually at that assigned altitude. Sleep well on that....

Here's a link that explains it better ....
