I really was not referring to neighborhood "movie theaters" per se...I've seen kiosks at several sports venues where doctors and others who are on mandatory stand by can register their seats so they can be alerted etc...I imagine most performing art venues that cater to similar clientele offer the same services...

Many, many people are now on call. Not just Doctors. It's required by their employers. We're talking about the humble movie theater, here, not a night at the opera.

Yep. If the network at work goes down, someone will call me whether it's noon, or 3am and I need to call back within 15 minutes or so.

The health care people "I" know who are on call, just put their phones on vibrate and walk out to answer them.....and I know quite a few!

Personally, I NEVER take MY phone OFF vibrate!

I think the issue with jamming is that an owner can use things like wire mesh in the walls to block signals, which is legal, but you cannot use any device that transmits a jamming frequency, that's illegal.

And customers can boycott the business with Faraday cages in their walls when they find out that their phones don't work inside these business if they choose.

Really guys, what is the BFD about someone using a cell phone inside of a theatre or at a sports venue anyway? Sure it is a little annoying, but is it the end of the world as we know it? I don't think so. It is no more annoying that couples nonstop talking in a theatre or kids throwing popcorn. Lighten up.

Besides movie theatres are an over 100 year old technology and you guys are complaining about a clash with a more recent technology of the ubiquitous cell phone in everyone's pocket. You do know don't you that there are many far better and more modern ways to view movies than sitting down with a bunch of strangers that may exhibit rude behaviour?

Just because it is "required" by an employer does not make it a life or death scenario...and IMO if it's not a life or death situation they (employers) can go pound sand...

I hate to think of anyone's life or health being put in jeopardy by a communications breakdown of any kind...BUT...I would love to see a solar storm etc wipe out all cell/wireless services for a few days just to wake people up...

Wake people up to what? OK, you would like to see communication infrastructure wipe off of the face of the earth. Well you may get your wish. It could happen. But in our modern world there will be an awful lot of hardship and suffering without communications. That much I will assure you of.

Is it not obvious to you how infatuated so many people are with their phones and other hand held devices?...I think it would be quite interesting to see what the masses turned to if their cell phones were toast for a few days...

And how do you get "see communication infrastructure wipe off of the face of the earth" out of an interruption of services for a few days (including a citation about jeopardizing issues)??...

I guess it's not just a "millennials thing" about expecting and being spoiled with immediate results and gratifications etc...
