I just built a 30x40 pole building. Cost about $1k more than going with Menards, but I felt better quality materials and better quality contractor. I had about an additional $1k in electrical materials (100 amp service, wire, outlets lights, etc.)

30x40 Garage 10' 6" Walls - No Overhang
Wainscoat
9x9 & 16x9 Garage Doors
3' service door

Pole Bld Materials and labor ......12,465.00
Heavy gauge Garage Doors .........1,890.00
Concrete @ $3.75/ft sq ft.............4,500.00
Site Prep (stumps, fill).................1,525.00
Openers.......................................700.00

Total..................................... $21,080.00

Now that is about the price point I was looking at, and i'm not having electric service installed.

May have to look into Menard's if they were $1k under that.

Do you have a picture of the finished building?

Material and labor costs vary with the condition of the economy.

When unemployment moves from 4.4% today, to 9% during the next recession, construction costs will decrease.

Can you wait?

Morton makes nice barns, but they are quite expensive. As others have said, a local contractor might do better than one of the big companies.

I wish I had the skills and experience to do it myself. Was born and raised in suburban CA by a single mother so never was exposed to the standard DIY stuff.

Moved to rural VT in 2013 and have been teaching myself a whole **** of a lot through trial and error.
Appears you are doing quite well if you need that size building to protect all your tractors, attachments, ATVs from the elements.

Will Menard's go to Vermont?
I think not!

I gave you my figures so at least you have one benchmark. I picked my builder because he used laminated posts (no warping or twisting) and heavier truss rafters (snow load). Building was up in 3 days! If I were you, I would:

  1. Go to local lumber yards for referrals or quotes
  2. Drive around and ask pole building owners who built theirs
  3. Ask cement contractors who they recommend
  4. Put it out on Facebook
