I am breaking ground on the foundation this weekend.
I'll be sure to take plenty of pictures.

Thanks,

Yes, it took about 6 weeks. That was mostly just my wife and I. Did get intermittent help from my two sons. Here's the inside.

Really nice. The hard part is setting the poles square and plumb. After that, it's like a giant erector set. Folks that erect pole buildings for a living are really efficient.

I had my 5-bay shed built in early 2013. Around A$32,000 and almost half the cost was the concrete pad (which is fairly standard here). The conditions in Aus usually don't call for an enclosed building. I saved $s by preparing the ground myself using my tiller & 4in1 bucket utilising the old Mk 1 eyeball to level = nailed it!

Concrete pad is a 'must have', if you can afford it. Putting it in later is a royal pain in the arse. A pad also means that you can store your implements/attachments on wheeled pallets for ease of hooking up/putting away.

Your' letting pallets breed and multiply under cover in bay 2? You have got to be kidding me! :D

if you are not a DIY'er you might consider "half circle" metal sheds, instead of the typical "triangle".

even if you are a DIY'er, setting trusses, concrete work, handling the posts, handling the longer heavier lumber. you really do need a 2nd and a couple times a 3rd person. to make things go efficiently. you need the ladders, you need the tools, you need the electricity near by to run saws and like. you need the tools and ability to cut the metal correctly if your not able to overlap for this or that. there is a bit of work getting metal sheets started on a roof. so it comes out evenly as you work across the roof. trying to balance posts as you brace them up and check levels.

it can all can be done by a single person. but 2 to 3 or more folks can really speed things along much quicker.

pole barns look simple enough, but good amount of grunt work, with the correct tools required, and some knowledge to get things to come out correctly. when and were to use nails, if screws are allowed, if you need to use lag bolts, etc... how to use a water level, string level, regular level, different saw blades, table saws, to hand circular saw, to reciprocating saw. how to brace stuff temporary as you go along.

having some sort of machine, be it crane, to a tractor with a boom on the FEL, to something else. needed to deal with a lot of the lifting and placing.

having good knowledge of ladders and how to set them up correctly and taking time set them up correctly. as much as i dislike OSHO. it might be a good read up for ladders and use of different ladders.

there is a good amount of different type of fasteners / braces / nails / screws / hangers, and making sure you have them all lined up. and ready to go as everything gets built.

Soldier,
I have a thread in this forum called "Raising a barn" it shows all the steps I took to build my barn. They really are not that hard to put up. Airbiscuit hit the nail on the head about making sure things are straight and plumb. I used a water level to set the building up. Getting it square was just dumb luck.:)

I knew Wag was conspiring with the pallets. I just knew it!

:) I had to look, but yeah... that's a hay ring (1 of 2).

My pallet breeding pen is just out of the picture to the right of the first pic.

Cat... that just flat out fits with the terrain and scene. Well done.:thumbsup: Heading over to find your build thread now.

P.S. I've noticed from this and other of your posts that someone's photography skills are commendable as well!
