Thinking of changing R4 over to R1

I don't have a loader on my L4740, I have a power angle snowplow. The R-4's just seem to have to much rubber on the slippery surface, I have a three point spreader on the rear, If when plowing my Blacktopped road I lay down cinders I have no problem coming back up the steep hill(Plow Up) my L4200 with "non loaded"R1's will most times come up the same hill with plow down, only using half of the plow width, Just seems R'1s with less rubber touching the ground have better traction. I don't use my tractors for cutting grass, I have a ZD326.

The R4 rims on my Grand L are adjustable. FYI I have them set at the widest setting.

As to the offroad equipment note, that may be the case, but we are talking about compact tractors here and what is available for them may well be different...
They are on my L4060 R4s as well, as they are on all grands. They are not adjustable on the economy tractor R4s though (my old L3200 R4s were fixed).

I believe compact tractors can be classified as "off road equipment". I don't see any being used for general transportation on the public roadways. :confused3:

You should spend more time in Wisconsin then. Around here you can drive in the road for ag purposes (obviously) or if you're part of a tractor club. I'm not sure how official your club has to be, but it's kinda fun driving your tractor to the bar...

Oh, I almost forgot to tie that comment into the discussion: R4 tread will hold up better to frequent bar excursions on the tractor, but R1s will give you more street cred with any actual farmers at the bar, and should your tractor end up on the ditch on the way home, the R1s will give you a better chance of getting out.

I Have a L4740 with 170hrs , ordered it with R4's and I'm not happy. I'm think of selling them, fronts are Titan 10-16.5 6ply w/rims, rears Titan 17.5L-24 6 ply w/ rims (no center disk) All look as if new, rears are loaded with W/S. I'm thinking I should get $1500.00 for everything, does that sound fair? I priced new rims and R1 tires and I'm over $2,000.00 and still have to load them.
That is probably a good price. Now finding someone to buy will be the problem. I think most folks would be in the same situation as you are since most CUTs come with R4 tires. Most utility tractors come with R1.
In regard to comments about lack of capacity with R1 tires, I suppose that is true but I have never had any issue with the R1 tires and carrying a load with my P7010. I can lift the weight of most CUTs with my FEL and never flatten the front tires, maybe just squat them a little. One does have to keep them properly inflated if you want to carry a heavy load though.

Yeah, sorry, but I won't hold the hair for you whilst you try to split it. :confused3::rolleyes: You know very well the difference in scale between the All-terrain boom lifts you were referring to vs a CUT.

I was in this same conundrum with my L3010. R4s are too wide for my uses as I have drop offs on the sides of my driveway. After the switch being all said and done it would cost me just under $3k

So instead I just upgraded to am immaculate Grand L3430 HSTC the dealer had just taken in on trade that already had R1s on it :D

You have to admit that R4 tires just look more "Boss" than R1 tires even if they aren't up to any work in mud. I think that is why they are on most CUTs because they make the tractor look bigger and stronger than it actually is.
I have a tractor with each type and without an FEL and backhoe to push me out, I would never get in a mud situation with the R4 tired tractor.

I do think that R4 will pull more on hard ground than R1 due to more surface area but in soft soil and mud, no contest. I also think that R4 wear better than R1 tires which is mostly the reason for them on industrial equipment that does a lot of running around on concrete and hard dirt which would wear out an R1 really fast.

Nope, I don't agree with that at all.
