If you haven't, teach your children the difference between Memorial day and Veterans day.

The reality is that EVERY day should be veterans day, giving thanks to all men and women who have or had activly served in our armed forces, but there is only one "official" day that we give thanks to those men and women who have given their lives in the line of duty for the defense of their country.

I realize my boys will never fully comprehend the impact that WW1 or WW2 had on peoples lives (one uncle out of 6 didn't make it back from my family during WW2), but out mowing with my son yesterday, I reminded him that men are still dying in defense of our country TODAY while we're mowing, enjoying the beautiful day. I also explained that although some people may not agree with the politics of the current state of events that put our men into war, that does not take anything away from the men and women who are VOLUNTEERING to serve in defense of their country, and who are still dying today.

Least we forget Korea and Vietnam as well and all the other wars our men didn't come home from.

Sigarms,

VERY well put. Every day should be BOTH Veteran's Day and Memorial Day. I am daily thankful to those that have served and those that have lost their lives for the freedom we enjoy. Whenever I encounter someone that I know is a Veteran or an active duty soldier, I make it a point to shake their hand and thank them for their service. It may not seem like much, but they do appreciate it. (BTDT).

This weekend is special for me as I have 2 Grandsons serving. 1 in the Army in Afghanistan and 1 in the Marines in Iraq. Can't wait for them to get home safely.

Thanks for bringing up one of my pet peeves...and my sentiments...

My full name was derived from the grand father who served in WWI who returned and I knew. Plus my uncle who was in the army air core and never made it back from WWII. I'm a history buff and somewhat understand the price people paid who came from many, many nations. Thank you.
