Buying Advice New small land owner.. what do I need?

If you are in snow county, plowing snow without a cab is cold. I do it. I used to plow with my pickup- that was faster and warmer. A 30 hp tractor will not be able to push the snow 150 feet. Consider a plow that angles, but better yet a snow blower (front mounted is easier on the neck). A cab is useful too!

A ztr is fun to use and fast. I have a craftsman 24hp ztl7000- I beat on it, do the back field for my wife to ride- always runs well. Worth the money

His driveway is 150 feet long, that's not that bad with an open station tractor and just an end loader or a rear blade.

Ha, I was be a little low. Called a place yesterday and they quoted me 1500 for a fixed blade with no controls. 2000+ for the next step up with controls.

That's a pretty good price. I thought for sure they were much more. Thanks.

My driveway is 120' and I plow it with my little PT425 and a 60" blade on the front... powered by a 25HP Kohler garden tractor engine.

Moss and I live in the land of lake effect. I plow my 110 foot drive w 24 hp new holland. Just use the bucket and edge tamers.

Open station and howling wind is not fun. But it is just a matter of the right clothing. Best money I spent was $30 at target for water proof insulated overalls.

Oh, come on..... you know you secretly love the open station and howling wind. That's why I go ice fishing in as bad of weather as possible. It's a cave man thing. You know if you mess up, you're gonna die! So you're secretly feeding your ego by surviving in extreme elements. :)

Survival instincts for some may be Ice Fishing. Others it may resemble ===

I plow much more than that with my 30 hp tractor. In my experience I cannot push snow 150' with the 5'bucket or 7' snow plow. The snow builds up and gets too heavy. The tires will spin in place - all 4, and the rears are loaded. I use chains on my icy driveway. Of course I always wait for the storm to be done before I begin to plow. I find the bucket faster than the plow, does a better job- scraping it clean. I make snow banks. The plow is handy, but I leave it off now.

If someone is planning to push snow- a pickup or a much larger tractor would be a better choice than a 30hp.
