I never changed my hydraulic fluid myself before. I drained the old fluid, installed a new Agco filter and added the 8 gallons of 303 tractor fluid. Now the hydraulics are dead.

A couple of things I am not sure about:
  • I have a MF 1525 FE loader, do I need more fluid than the 8.2 gallons specified in manual for the FE loader?
  • Also I am not seeing any fluid in the glass where you check the level. Am I just needing more fluid?
  • I saw another post on the forums where someone else had this issue and they just let the tractor run until the hydraulics kicked in. Do I just need to let it run longer? I let it run about 15 minutes so far before I killed it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Not knowing your exact tractor, but if the hyd pump lost its prime the first thing I would do is put a light charge of air from a compressor at the reservoir fill to push the oil up into the suction line to jumpstart the hyd pump while it is running at idle.......using an airhose and a rag wrapped around the nozzle to try to contain the air but not over doing it. 15 minutes is a long time in starving hyd pump time:2cents:

Pretty sure 303 is the wrong fluid. I think Universal hydraulic fluid is correct. Did you fill the filter? A dead system is common after an oil change. You have air in it. Let the engine idle. Don't rev the engine. That can damage your system. It should Purge the air out after just a few minutes.

I would pull the filter and fill with oil then try again. Shouldn't take 15 min 1-2 max.

The air compressor & rag did the trick! Only took a couple of seconds and the 3 point hit popped right up. THANKS!!!

You mention there is no fluid visible in the check level glass...
To me...you still need to had oil up to half point in the glass.
Your oil level is to low.
Are you talking of your 3 point or couplers (remotes) not running ?
I don't know about 303 oil...I use Agco/MF Permatran, maybe wrong viscosity ??

My 3point hitch @ my front end loader were both totally dead. But now they are working fine after the air compressor & rag trick wdchyd mentioned.

Just checked, wrong fluid. It will damage your system. You can use any multi viscosity Universal hydraulic fluid.

When checking the sight glass, the loader needs to be down and bucket curled up.

Just checked, wrong fluid. It will damage your system. You can use any multi viscosity Universal hydraulic fluid.

What will be damaged first? and what will the nature of the damage be?

My read, 303 is a good general purpose tractor hydraulic fluid. Perhaps it does not excell as a gear box lube.
