.22 LR Ammunition - any updates on availability?

Thunderbolts have worked well in everything I have owned and been extremely accurate. So I never bought anything but them for many many years.

Only once I started using a 22 lr conversion and getting alot of ftf, fte, and ftl's with the Thunderbolts was I forced to try other rounds.

Them Winchester were the trick. 222's, 333's, and 555's (all the same bullets) are accurate in everything I own, being played they are cleaner, and no issues in the conversions.

Now that you have notes and a baseline, I'd highly recommend you try some.

And do you mind sharing some of the target/grouping info. Just how consistent were they and at what range.

Oh now I have to embarrass myself! :ashamed: Okay I will try to post some pics of the saved targets. Maybe I should start another thread???

Nothing to be embarrassed about. If you did the best you could, thats all anyone can expect right?

When it comes to pistol shot groupings....my best is definitely embarrassing. His might be too, but I'll bet he'll be in good company.

You know it. I'm not likely to be making the Olympic team in this lifetime.

There is a trick to shooting good groups with a pistol. The most effective method is to place the target at about 10 feet away, which is about as close as you can place it without getting unburned powder particles on the target. Shoot the best group you can, and then label the target "25 yards rapid fire" It works for me . :D

Probably the best rapid fire group I have shot with a .45acp pistol was televised. I would really like to have a copy of that tape. Here was the setup: during one of the "women's handgun seminars" at Bass Pro, The local TV station was shooting film, and one segment had a clip of my wife shooting her .45 1911 rapid fire, but no view of the target. Then they wanted me to demonstrate a rapid fire string of 8 rounds out of the same .45.

I ripped off 8 rounds in about 2.5 seconds into a B27 target at 21 feet (7 yards). The close up of the target revealed they could all be covered by your palm. The TV station then spliced it together to give the impression that my wife had shot the group as they switched prospective from her doing the firing to the target prospective. I didn't really care, but it shows that what you see on TV is ALWAYS a lie.

I would still like to have the tape though.

I just picked up my father's day gift, Academy had a deal, but a Taurus PT111 G2 and get a free Heritage .22 LR revolver. the revolver is a single action, 6 shot, with interchangeable .22 LR and .22 WRM cylinders, but only comes with .22 LR. For the record, I'm seeing happy things with ammo in general past 3 months. Lower prices, and more of it. Anyways, the .22 is about a 7 yard gun, sights are non adjustable, and a bit off, but let's face it, it's a 'toy'. The PT111 fits awesome in my hand for a compact 9mm. Trigger is not stuff, BUT it's so LONG you thing you got a miss fire you've pulled it so far back. Will take a bit of time to get used too.

Academy also had 'Blazer Brass 9mm 115gr FMJ' for $9.99/50. I bought two boxes, but nearly every round the actual projectile was dings, dents, scratches, and lots of the brass looks tarnished, and some projectiles look like they were not seated straight. Not sure I really plan on buying more of that again
