Now, I will say this: I don't really care about 'organic', GMOs, antibiotics or steroids I am fairly fanatical about buying local. We get a weekly CSA (consumer supported agriculture???) basket from a large local farm. We get a lot of meat from a farm about 30 miles away (chicken, lamb, pork). We get Carolina Gold rice (makes grocery store rice seem flavorless and odorless) which is crazy expensive but is wonderful. We get our grits from a local farm/mill that grinds their own. We're blessed with great local corn and peaches.
Buying local is just a win-win. It is fresher, it supports locals, less resources used in shipping, etc.
However, I'm not so big on local beef. It is grass fed and just not all that great. If it cost half as much as good beef that would be different but I'm not going to pay double for 'grass fed' beef.
