Trust me, he was NOT a happy camper! lol

May I ask how you were able to handle and or transport him in that cage? I've had to deal with racoons in live traps and the big and unhappy ones make it difficult to hold and carry the cage!

First of all, I NEVER transport a live coon, I shoot them in the trap... I believe it's still against the law here to let them go, and WHY would I move MY problem animal to some one else's area so they have to deal with it?? Anyway, I probably get 20 to 30 a year...

As for the bob cat, there was no need to transport him any place... I just have no need to transport a bob cat, SO I put my coat over the back of the trap so he couldn't see me, (or my wife who was also there) and then I stood behind the trap, reached over and opened the door.

Only thing that cat had on his mind, was to get as far away from me and that trap as fast as he could!

I sure did. The neighbour had twin girls, one blond the other a ginger. Foxes for certain.

What is with the comments about coy dogs and coy wolves. If coyotes eat well they grow bigger. There is little interbreeding

I've also read that inter breeding between coyotes and dogs is a myth, but don't know this for a fact.

I looking forward to seeing one of these critters up in a tree:

The gray fox (Urocyon cinereoargenteus), or grey fox, is a carnivorous mammal of the family Canidae ranging throughout most of the southern half of North America from southern Canada to the northern part of South America (Venezuela and Colombia).[2] No other canid's natural range spans both North and South America and it is the only American canid that can climb trees.[3] This species and its only congener, the diminutive Channel Island fox (Urocyon littoralis), are the only living members of the genus Urocyon, which is considered to be the most basal of the living canids.[4] Though it was once the most common fox in the eastern United States, and still is found there,[5][6] human advancement and deforestation allowed the red fox to become more dominant. The Pacific States still have the gray fox as a dominant. Its specific epithet cinereoargenteus means "ashen silver".

I used to believe that too, but more and more studies show eastern coyotes have a percentage of eastern grey wolf and dog in their DNA based on analysis of their scat. I've been hiking, hunting and camping over most of the US and my personal observation is that the few eastern coyotes that I've actually seen appear larger than the Midwest and western ones.
