The wheels ain't the problem it's tires. I was out at the JD. property yesterday and noticed again how much of a foot print the R-4's, I believe they are leave. And thought of this thread. I new what damage was already done to the Bridgestone from sitting and the DA. local tire shop. But what I found Yrs. ago with the Lugs being so Tall and my type of soil is that I don't leave a Tractor Rear tire foot print. Then an even bigger plus is the mower wheels line up really close to my Org. front. I'm rough on the zero turn lovers......:) I realize I don't have near the weight of the JD but that was another reason to keep the Org. Bridge. and not find out it does the same.

Had a break in the much needed rain yesterday, So decided to test the tires on wet ground,
They don't dig/cut into the sod like the ag's did, the mud tires do very well not to tear up the ground,
even with the low tread they still have good traction, althoug the real test will be with the plow in soft soil,
I'm still thinking of liquid filling the tires, Has anyone use liquid in they're CUT?
Many years ago a neighbor loan me his large JD tractor with loaded tires, the tires were approx 5 1/2 ft tall x 2 ft. Wide and im sure held quite a bit of liquid, the tractor IMO this tractor was scarry to drive and when braking had to give plenty of distance due to the liquid in the tires forcing the tractor to continue n a forward motion. Also were heavy enough to mar into soft soil and loose traction spinning. I had to use the loader bucket to back it out of the rut it made.
I certainly dont want to have my tractor doing this.

Here's an old thread with a chart showing gallons and weight for filling ag tires, and some diagrams.

For your 1700 the tires aren't big enough to be as heavy as what you described on that JD.

My neighbor advised fill front and rear on all tractors used for orchard work around here, since a rops is impractical and all the ground is sloping. This adds quite a bit of traction and more important, helps resist rollover.

I filled the oversize rears of the YM240 to 75% (valve just submerged when at top) and it felt too heavy, the weight slowed down the tractor going uphill. Reduced to 50% fill felt just right.

Water works fine in this climate. It can go below freezing overnight but its extremely rare for a freeze to persist through the daytime.

I've read that iron weights on the wheels is preferable to liquid fill because tires need to flex for best traction and the liquid makes them more rigid.

For my Org. 2000's when discussing my options with Steve @ Spalding tractor foam came up. But I was surprised of how much weight it added to the tire. My interest was stay away from water and foam because of the weight issue. I still was going to have to reline the tire for the foam to work so just new tubes/reliners was best. And then come to find out after using a rear scoop to do small things around the property and finding out just how much weight & down force when backing up gets put on the rear. And then add in the 3.5" ricer lugs and it works fantastic. With the 50 Hp. JD. having a FEL. and knowing it's capability's all to well So IMO. my Yanmar will never have a FEL. on it. I did find a Foam weight chart and I was surprised how much weight it did add. http://carpenter.com/docs/tire-fill/tirefill_weight_chart.pdf

Carey we can't see into your C: drive until you take down the firewall in your router. :)

Anyhow - is foam nearly as heavy as water?

Maybe I can't, it's HP.. Been fighting this model for awhile. Just search for one if it won't open. They have my T-screen working "again" so I'm not messing with it. But it's a lot more than I thought it would be... I think I have it working?

I've had my fronts foam filled. It's more of a jelly material that added a substantial more weight and never again will I worry about a flat. I paid about $80 per tire. The rears I left alone for now as they wanted almost $200 to fill those. Once I get a flat, I'll deal with those then.
