With a fixture like that, I would replace the whole fixture with something like:

I might also drill a hole in the side so the light from the side marker is visible from the side.

I went to google and typed in 4" LED trailer lights and found some for $19.95 each
Product Width 4-1/2 in.
In that case, how about one of the round "lollipop" lights like semi trucks use on the front fenders? Drill a hole on a trailer side of the bracket for it to mount through and make it oversized enough so that it can go in at an angle and tightened it up with a big washer on each side.
