My 2538 CAB has a spot for a radio.

And sales guy said "Yeah, any head unit, just put it in there"

And yeah, that's not true.

He is looking to find out info from Mahindra for me, but in the mean time, has anyone installed an aftermarket radio in theirs? Any tips or ideas?

I know the factory unit will work, but I am not in the mood to pay $500 for a $50 head unit.

pop a cheap radio in and continue on.

with above said, i want to say there is a "line filter" or something that might be wanted. i do not remember exactly if it is a line filter or what not. but it cleans up the electricity going to the radio or other computer related electronics. best i can remember is dirty electricity. if you do not need this. then just pop in a radio and continue on. min fuse in line to battery if you do not have a spare fuse / wiring harness already there in the cab.

most likely a shop/service manual for your tractor would show wiring diagram and wiring harness locations, and what color wire does what. as far as power +/- cables, and cable for memory on radio (for when switch is off), along with what wires are there for any speakers.

check to see if there is antenna for a radio. i would imagine if newer cab unit, and has a spot for radio an antenna connection is there, but perhaps not. and can buy third party antennas and cables for antenna.

Heck. I installed a flee market $20.oo stereo in my tractor simply hung it from the roof and added 2 speakers behind my head.
Works for me!
Makes snow plowing and other chores more tolerable and also can keep up with current affairs.
If I wanted to splurge I could add satellite as well. (no thanks)

A good set of FM headphones with rechargeable batteries works everywhere.......... :)

I kind of like my time away from all the electronic garb, and yes that includes a bunch of music. Just my take on it.

What with all the ambient noise just drop an Ipod or other player in your shirt pocket and put on some ear buds or earphones. You also get to enjoy ad free tunes and only tunes that you like. Also no interference or reception problems.

My cab tractor came pre-wired with speakers and an antenna. Bought a cheap Sony AM/FM/CD radio at auto parts and wired it in. Radio fit in the factory spot exactly. Not the best quality with surrounding tractor noise but better than nothing.

The AM/FM headphones is a good idea too.

Well, it is wired already. Apparently, there is at least 1 ebay seller who has radios that plug and play for about $175. I will have to dig around in the cab to see what wires and connections are waiting to be used.

The speakers, etc are already there, so I want to use my new toy darn it!

I just pulled the trigger on an excavator as well. I got the cab version and sales guy threw in the radio fo' free!

Ours leave with radios

any aftermarket standard size radio will work. the universal harness and installation kit are usually sold separate , Get one with aux port then you can plug your ipod in to that. IMO a external radio is far superior that using head phones because when working with equipment you need to be able to discern changes in attachment sounds or tractor sounds .
