The hardest part of building my "binzebo" was the railings. The most structural strength when building was gained with the railings.

Even as a mechanical engineer and getting this moment of inertia thing, I was amazed when I did stairs to the deck that the stairway was really bouncy with 4 Stringers and two extra 2 x 6 Braces, but when I put on the rails it became rock solid.

Re: My wife wants a Gazebo, Help! Out smarted myself.

Mine is just a humble gazebo.

I like the satellite dish for a roof. I will use the leftover metal roofing from our solar voltaic install and just buy enough extra to finish the roof. I'm confiding hiring back the fellow who did the our barn roof.

Mine is just a humble gazebo.

I carefully planned the design in Solidworks. I was not happy that the floorboard spacing was only working out at 0.15" gap so I increase it to about 7/32" making the gazebo 121-3/8" across.

I also planned on building the frame in my equipment building, as it has sort of a level floor, tools are handy , generally convenient, out of the rain and good light etc.

I framed the floor. Brought it outside, using the L39 to flip it over, then moved it back in the building and continued to work, adding the outside sill planks and posts.
I forgot about the extra 1-1/2" I added until it was time to move it outside. Duh! Dooh!

Still after taking off the door trim, It was still about 1/8" too big.

Finally we wiggled it out without too much damage, craning it with the L39's hoe, trying not pt bash up the garage door rails too bad.

My stepson helped and did not swear at me too much.

The excavator is going to be handy when I drop it in the round elevated garden.

I'l post photos of my lifting rig.

Re: My wife wants a Gazebo, Help! Some progress

Doesn't look humble to me. Looks professional!! Nice work. Be sure to add another pic when it's done!!!

Thank you! I got the iron work lagged into the posts now.
I got a price ($2100!) to do the roof in standing seam metal. It is same stuff as used under the solar install on the barn. Cost with screens and railings make this to be about a $5500 structure, not counting the 200-300 hundred hours I got into it. The ironwork (Corbels) are lagged in and the screen door is framed. The next hard part is the railings.

Last night I pulled and carried away a near 3.000 Lb boulder with the L39. The measured rock dimensions was +48" x 42" x 24", too late in the day to take a photo. I placed it there with my excavator a few years ago, but wanted to minimize damage to our front yard by first trying to use the L39 to get it out of the way for the gazebo.

I was really not expecting the L39 to be able to do it. I used a chain and the BH to pull it to the edge of the circular raised garden, and the grapple to lift it and move it away.

It was very difficult to fit and grab the rock in the grapple, but I finally managed using the stone wall of the garden as a backstop to help get hold of the rock. I had to use 4wd to move as there was not enough weight on the rear of the L39 on the dewy wet grass. I lifted it all of 6", but got it to the gravel driveway for the excavator to move it to a final resting place. The ruts are not too deep in the lawn.
What remains to finish the Gazebo, after installing the standing seam roof, is the screen door needs to be hung, the already pre-cut and fitted composite decking screwed down, add the screening, and install the cupola. I'll even put screen mesh under the decking to keep the bugs out. Barring a twister or major gazebo swallowing earthquake, etc. I built it for 100 year life. so I hope someone gets to enjoy it!

I made a pattern out of strapping so to know where to dig the holes for the foundation blocks to set the gazebo. My wife is going to cry about her lawn when I finally use the excavator to pick up carry and set the Gazebo. A heavy lift helicopter is my other option, but grass seed & loom cost less.

Put temporary skids under it and drag it with the L39?

I still have to lift it and place it in our little "Stonehenge" rock Garden. Excavator is only way. I'll post more pics.
