You get exactly what you paid for with a 'free' service --------- nothing.
I tend to agree that what they likely did may suck, but what does one really expect from a free service? And does anyone think they could care one bit that a lot of you say you won't give them any money? You haven't to date, so what's changed for them; you didn't pay for their free service and now you're not going to pay for their cost based service. Sounds like the people who jammed thousands of pics on their site expecting it to be free forever are getting a big picture of what reality looks like.
Nothing for nothing, no FREE lunch, etc., etc.
I say wake up and smell the coffee. If you want cloud storage you're going to have to pay for it. Way of the world called Earth.
Too bad, so sad.

"Cloud storage" really isn't all that hard to read up on and set up yourself with very little cost. The majority of the cost is already paid for when you pay your internet service bill each month. It really is no different than buying a tractor to tend to land maintenance yourself; you just have to be willing to learn.

Not in the 13+ years I have been hosting pix on TBN. Indeed, at 1048 photos uploaded, I may be in the top 1-5
TBN uploaders. I have never liked to use 3rd party hosting, cuz they mess with your sizes, and they might delete
them at any time. That's the free sites: Photobkt, Picasa, Shutterfly, etc. If you pay, that's a different story.

I used to have a web page hosted on Verizon.net, my ISP at that time. One day, they just deleted everything.
Since I did not pay for that extra service, I had no say or warning. I had links to my page in my TBN signature.
I doubt you are in the top 5 :) But it's worth another thread.

Yeah, I let that go. I was rummaging around tryin to find a pic I'd posted and stumbled on my count. It was in the mid 1200s. I'd guess Xfaxman has double that. :)

As I stated earlier there was a time when I couldn't post a pic without a host. Now that might have been due to my ignorance. I'll own that. :)

I have a couple photobucket accounts... IF they go away, then I got exactly what I paid for!, that's why you have them backed up!

I can't understand why ANYONE would put picts there or anyplace else, without backing them up!!

I have every pict. I own, backed up! (in more than one place)

Boy that is a really big deal for Amazon. Glad I uploaded all my pics on Amazon one by one and was that ever a chore!
I do see why they are charging though. Why should they free host your business pics for you? I think it would have been better to of course give advance notice and have an appeal process. Like the probably should say, No 3rd party hosting to Amazon, E-Bay, Walmart etc. and slowley build up their black list. It is really mean of them to do it to ppl who are just using it for forum commenting.

I "think" my iPad pictures are backed up on the clud but I download them to my computer and additionaly have a continual external drive doing a back up. Then I also from time to time save important files, including pics on a high density thumb drive as that gives me portability to my Windows based computer. I just don't like putting my information outside of my control. I can see how this mobe by photobucket is really going to hurt a lot of innocent people.

This is almost like sabotage, it's so stupid. The CEO and every executive who signed off on this should be fired.

I think "ransom" is a strong term. The photos can still be viewed by third parties, they just need to open the image URL in a separate tab. This allows Photobucket to display their ads and make some money from the traffic. That doesn't seem too unreasonable to me.

But the implementation process does sound terrible. I can't imagine what they were thinking.

I suspect that members posting over 1000 unique images are few in number. I have no direct
evidence of that. Repeat posts of the same image are not tallied by TBN, tho I have done
that even more.

1200+ is a lot.
