Glad I avoid cloud services for everything possible.
I do host my own pictures for here and other forums. I prefer to be responsible for my own content. I've always suspected the more popular "free" cloud services would end up becoming "pay" services.
There was a time when you had to use a host to attach pics to a post here.
Yeah, it certainly sucks but they're fully within their "rights" to do it. All the more reason to keep a proper backup and not trust free services with anything critical.
I never think free services are there for me. They are there to make money. TBN included.
I simply think PB went about it wrong.
Not since I've been on.There was a time when you had to use a host to attach pics to a post here.
I totally agree! It will be interesting to see if the larger customers of PB are enough to keep it afloat or if it will go the way of the Edsel. The price to use their services is above the threshold of what individuals want to pay to post pictures from what I have heard.

I doubt you are in the top 5Not in the 13+ years I have been hosting pix on TBN. Indeed, at 1048 photos uploaded, I may be in the top 1-5
TBN uploaders. I have never liked to use 3rd party hosting, cuz they mess with your sizes, and they might delete
them at any time. That's the free sites: Photobkt, Picasa, Shutterfly, etc. If you pay, that's a different story.
I used to have a web page hosted on Verizon.net, my ISP at that time. One day, they just deleted everything.
Since I did not pay for that extra service, I had no say or warning. I had links to my page in my TBN signature.
I doubt you are in the top 5But it's worth another thread.
"Cloud storage" really isn't all that hard to read up on and set up yourself with very little cost. The majority of the cost is already paid for when you pay your internet service bill each month. It really is no different than buying a tractor to tend to land maintenance yourself; you just have to be willing to learn.
I think "ransom" is a strong term. The photos can still be viewed by third parties, they just need to open the image URL in a separate tab. This allows Photobucket to display their ads and make some money from the traffic. That doesn't seem too unreasonable to me.
Yeah, I let that go. I was rummaging around tryin to find a pic I'd posted
and stumbled on my count. It was in the mid 1200s. I'd guess Xfaxman has double that.
As I stated earlier there was a time when I couldn't post a pic without a host. Now that might have
been due to my ignorance. I'll own that.![]()
