The 2538 doesnt have a clutch just a brake on the left side to push in to start. I have been beside the tractor and mashed the brake with my hand to start it before, been a few times I needed to move the 3 point a little to hook up a bush hog but had already cut it off.I thought you had to be in the seat to start it in addition to pressing the clutch. If not, good to know. I may give the Michigan seat a try.
I have a 2540. The seat will indeed absorb gross indignities. Of course, being vinyl, you'll be sitting in a puddle of sweat unless you put a cover on it.I read a couple places where people got the seat from 2540 and put in on there, seemed to be a big upgrade. I cant find the thread right now but I believe its a suspension seat.

You are technically correct, of course. Still, gonna get me a sheepskin ...If it is like the seat I linked above, no puddles as it is built with a drain hole. Ya still sweat profusely, but the boys aren't floating in it...
